American Culture

I am curious to know whether the culture of American college students and teenagers having parties, wanting to lose their virginity and jocks being the most popular students portrayed in Hollywood movies and shows represents the actual culture in reality?

For me, there were a lot of different generations in college when I was eighteen and so there was a lot more maturity among students overall. I think it's more like Hollywood propaganda trying to influence teenagers and young people on what is important.

I'm thinking the late 70's and 80's were like that. The intensity of coursework, in my experience, leaves little time for that kind of socialization now. However it still exists to a degree.

I don’t know anything about the jocks, but there was sex in just about any dorm room you entered. It was like the season was about to be over, and there was a rush to get one more time in.

I never saw any of that during my time in college.

I was more interested in biking to videogame stores and asian shops to buy strange fruit during my free time in between classes

I was in college in the early 2000s and there was definitely partying and drinking and hooking up going on. It was common.

@Dcat83 is that still the case now?
Dcat83 · 41-45, M
@Philasefer from what I've heard, yes. It's just part of college life. Stressful during the week because of studying and juggling responsibilities so on the weekends students let loose and drink and have fun.

The rich had their Greek stuff. Most of us were busy working and keeping our grades up.

The parties are a real thing but they aren’t in dorm rooms like how it is in movies lol they’re all off campus since many dorms have strict roles and security
There is some truth to that

@BizSuitStacy I see. Whats the truth?

@Justmeraeagain whats the culture like now? And why are most hollywood, Netflix series still portray such culture?
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Philasefer It is never like Hollywood, which is a land of illusions.
I wasn't in college but high school in the 80's, and there was a definite culture of badasses; I was not one of them.
Today's culture seems more about protest, restlessness, cancellation, hating anything they can't relate to, and getting Starbucks.
Since I am not in that age group, I could be way off, however.

No quite frankly, American college culture is exactly the opposite.
