Separate faucets for hot and cold water?
I mean...just why?
Gumba1000 · M
@CrazyMusicLover Because our country is old enough to have had cold water plumbing a long time before hot water plumbing became available. People didn't have the money to pull out cold plumbing to then add new sinks and taps for mixers with hot water.

@Gumba1000 I read it's for safety reasons because hot water is not drinkable. Actually, I didn't think much about before but when there were cases of legionella, I started questioning how reliable lever taps actually are in this regard. How do you know you're only getting cold, drinkable water?
Gumba1000 · M
@CrazyMusicLover The hot water is drinkable as in safe. It's just you wouldn't want to. In hard water areas the lime collects in the hot water boilers. You'd then be drinking it. You're probably right about legionella as well but I doubt it is the primary reason.

@Gumba1000 It's not safe to drink it here because that's where bacteria can grow. Such as were the cases with legionella. One man who was infected confessed that he had a habit of drinking a glass of warm water every morning. I was surprised as I was always taught to not drink warm tap water ever. Although I'm not sure if people drinking cold water from contaminated area would be safe.

@CrazyMusicLover
Separate taps for hot and cold water?
I mean...just why?
Maybe "just because why not" Or "just because it's simpler" (and makes maintenance/repairs simpler. Designers used to think about things like that).

What is it that puzzles you about this straightforward arrangement?

In my recollection the cold water supply (Scotland) had to be isolated from the hot to reduce the possibility of cross contamination. But that was a long time ago.

@Really I'm pretty sure it puzzles most people who are used to mixed taps. We don't like to either freeze or burn ourselves.

@CrazyMusicLover I'm amazed to hear you freeze & burn yourself because you can't remember which way to turn the lever. But in case you hadn't figured it out, separate taps eliminate that problem. If still confused you can label (H, C,) and even color-code them. 😆
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@Really I have no idea what you are talking about. What lever?

CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@Really Oh look, I even found an illustration for you. I guess it can't get more descriptive than this.

Ah, you DO have separate taps! Just why?

@CrazyMusicLover That's really silly. Promise me you'll buck up.

@Really You make no sense to me.

@CrazyMusicLover That's too bad. My condolences.
