Why is common sense so scarce.
"Judge people on their character and not the color of their skin"
But what really stuck with me....is when he commented the way his parents raised him......teaching him that he is not better than anyone based on the color of his skin.
And that is what it boils down to.
Children learn what the are taugh and what they see and hear.
The cycle continues to spiral
I'm thankful i was raised as this man was...and that is how i raised my children.

This guy is a recent and happy discovery for me. He's what I consider "real" america. The America I remember from my childhood visiting places like Arizona etc.

I have to confess that until watching this, I had never heard the expression "sundown town", but i can imagine what it means!
This guy was great.
I can relate another positive anecdote.
A friend of mine lives out in the country. He jokes that he and his wife are the only Democrats for miles around. But last week, he went to the monthly township meeting, and he heard two farmers talking. One of them said, "This time, I'm voting on character. " And the other seemed to agree.

@DrWatson As a child I remember driving with my parents through such towns. In one, Vidor, Texas, I was just learning to read and saw the sign. I asked Pop what it meant. With a grim expression he replied, "it means that it’s not safe for us to linger."🥺
Very nice to people like that are not only still out there, but also on YouTube.
My big question, though, was that a cat or a raccoon climbing up behind him?

@MistyCee I noticed that, too—I believe it was a cat. 😄

It's happening, yet oh so slowly. Especially in the deep South.😞
bijouxbroussard · F
@DeWayfarer A few steps forward, then the inevitable steps backward (like MAGA). I admit, I hadn’t predicted that trajectory.

I never thought we would be stuck in the middle of racial discourse in the middle of 2024. I thought we were moving past this in the 90s. I regret being so naive.

He forgot religion

@Justenjoyit Some religions are bad because of what they teach. But no skin colors or eye shapes are bad.

@bijouxbroussard Maybe some religions are bad, but it does not mean the people who are following it are not the same as me
bijouxbroussard · F
@Justenjoyit That’s true. But if their religion teaches them that people who don’t look like them, don’t believe as they do, aren’t as well off,are less than they are, they’re probably not as kind as you are. 🥺
