How do you feel about affirmative action and diversity equity inclusion programs?

Do you think it necessary to help right past discrimination against for example the disabled, racial/ethnic minorities, the middle aged to elderly, lgbtqia+, women etc. or do you feel it contributes to modern day discrimination of men and caucasians today as reverse discrimination? I am being completely serious and I want serious well thought out answers please. In an ideal world merit would be the only factor in determining getting a job but there are still so many prejudices and lack of reasonable accommodations for people in the work force. So also what are your thoughts on diversity programs in education as well?
