It's funny, I never hear liberals use the word woke barely; it's always the right wing types.

@JimboSaturn I'm ignorant. I never heard it before. What does it mean. Please explain it to me (I'm serious)

@BridgeOvertroubledWaters I can help.
So, the word woke began as a slang term in the African-American community. It referred to a white person who was aware of the struggles of black people.
Since that time, and especially in recent years, the word has come to refer to anybody who is aware of social injustice around them. But given the negative press that the phrase "social justice" has gotten from the right, it was inevitable that the word woke would start being used as a derogatory term by people who wish to remain asleep.

@BridgeOvertroubledWaters it started off as "alert to racial prejudice and discrimination" but now to right wing types, it means being liberal in general.

@JimboSaturn is it an abbreviation?

@BridgeOvertroubledWaters I believe it's a bastardization of "awake" or "awoke", to be no longer asleep

Thanks @JimboSaturn 👍 (even a right wing Israeli knows how to say thank you 😉)
