So apparently I'm a white supremacist now, because I took exception to somebody using the word woke in a derogatory sense.

But yeah I guess my mates on the estate (housing project) I knew should've known to check their privelege, it may have been a valid discussion even 20 years ago but now with all the schemes, etc. Nah.

I don't earn a good enough salary to introspect on my privelege.

@BritishFailedAesthetic I confront people at the speech or thought level. Because long before people commit hate crimes, they engage in hate speech. If someone changes their mind based on something I've written, then I've helped.
Or here's a fun thought. You can go to somewhere like Harlem and tell black people they aren't subjected to subtly different treatment at best, even today in 2023.
Sure. Blame the few people who are able to afford houses. Don't blame the banks that literally own millions of houses in North America. Fun fact. Did you know that there are enough houses sitting empty to give literally every homeless person six?

@BritishFailedAesthetic I think you'll find there's a difference between wearing a medal, as you put it, and just not being able to shut up when I see it going on. Subtlety isn't exactly my thing. I'm more of a blunt instrument.

And the use of words like woke tells me what side someone is on. If you don't know what the actual meaning of that word is by now, it isn't for lack of effort from my part. It's for lack of reading on yours. But one last time, just so you can't say I'm with holding information, here's something:

@BritishFailedAesthetic Honestly it is not usually relevant to just announce that. But given my own ancestry I know from family and personal experience there are definite advantages to being able to pass as white.

Hell for Metis how well you could blend in sometimes even meant the difference between having your kids taken and shipped off to a residential school.

Try walking into a convenience store, even in the liberal bastion known as Oregon, and having dark skin. I remember once, not very long ago at all, I walked in to a family-owned Kwik-E Mart type store at the same time as a black guy, and the guy behind the counter was just staring at him the entire time. I considered slipping something into my pocket just to prove a point, but I decided against. I totally could have. Dude behind the counter was expecting the black guy to be the shoplifter.
