It can be. Look at Blazing Saddles. That movie did a lot to demonstrate how ridiculous racism is using satire and comedy.

I'm awfully purist when it comes to comedy--potentially anything is funny.

@uncalled4 That's one of my favorite films, but not for the satire. But for the way it defies convention in cinematography.

@Sidewinder I always enjoyed the big Panavision frame and was delighted when it was released letterboxed in the 80s(or possibly 90s).

@uncalled4 I meant "defying convention" in how it begins as yet another run-of-the-mill western, then breaking the convention of the genre by adding in deliberate anachronisms, ("Wide World of sports," Medieval hangman, Bikers in a lineup with banditos, Nazis and Klansmen, etc) Crude humor, (Beans and flatulence,) and fourth wall breaks. The biggest one being the camera pullback in the brawl scene that reveals the town to be a set on a studio lot and the fight extending beyond it into other sets, the studio commissary and the Chinese Theatre.

@Sidewinder It's brilliant in everything it does. "Drive me off of this picture!"
