@LordShadowfire It's fucked up for a grown man to be with a 14 year old girl. Fucking wicked and I condemn the shit out of it. But he didn't force her to without her consent so to call it rape is definitionally just wrong. It's still fucked up tho. That said, it wasn't uncommon, so while we can say "it was wrong" what you CAN'T say is that thomas jefferson was particularly wrong for his time when compared to the norms in the world everywhere, including europe, africa, mid east and asia. In Japan, that shit happens all the time. It's wrong but acting like Jefferson was uniquely bad when he wasn't is the problem.

@BRUUH She was a slave, dude. She wasn't legally allowed to refuse his advances. That objectively makes it rape. However, I don't share the OP's opinion that that makes Jefferson an objectively worthless person. He was a fallible human being who did some things which the culture of the day condoned and we do not.
That being said, I think it's fucked up that raping your slaves was ever okay.
