First American paycheck for Cuban immigrant. A good reality check.

A very cool video of a Cuban immigrant opening his first American paycheck. He got a job as UPS driver and his pride and happiness is a pretty good reminder of what the "American dream" really is.

My longtime partner is an immigrant and I think a whole lot of people, for whatever twisted reason, think people escaping hardship come here to take advantage. In my experience, nothing could be further from the truth.

'Take advantage' of what, I wonder, other than the opportunity to fulfil one's potential and improve the fortunes of one's family. The same accusations are made against immigrants to the UK. Mainly by those who have never tried to survive on our very minimal social security net.

@SunshineGirl You make a good point. Remittances are what it's about for a lot of people. They could keep all the money for themselves and live a better life but they not only leave their families but work their asses off to take care of them. I just see that as noble.
