I want migrants to come to the USA

Immigration can be great if done properly. People need to be welcome with open arms but at the same time vetted. We need to know why they are coming, that they are not carrying communicable disease, are not involved in human trafficking, are not criminals, and want to be a contributing part of the country.

The rate of immigration should be regulated by OUR ABILITY TO VETT THEM, not this wide open invasion crap.

You know, I agree, at least to some degree and I think most people would agree at least to one degree or another. Therein lies the problem. To what degree and how is it done humanely, equitably and responsibly while still fulfilling our role as a shelter to those in need.

The way forward is not even remotely what we have today and not what we had in the recent past. Like it or not, want to deal with it or not, the world has changed and we can either get with it or be left behind and remain in the turmoil we face today and have faced for the last many years.

The answer(s) are not easy, not simpel and not something we can get to in a month, 6 months or even a year, but there are answers and what we have to do is get our members of both houses to sit down, turn off the political crap, and get busy drafting new immigration laws and policies supported by the infrastructure and funding to pull it off.

@Ontheroad

Finally, a sensible answer. Not the "Keep em all out" or "Build the wall" or the "Not in my neighborhood" solution.

@calicuz To me, the reason for building a wall is to not keep people out, but rather to have them enter at the points of our choosing. I agree that keeping them all out is not a solution.

@Ontheroad Yes. I know my next statement will be overly simplistic and there are complications that I am not even aware of but here goes. It seems to me that for as long as I can remember we have been pouring a huge amount of money overseas to people who hate us. Meanwhile we have this enormous number of people who actually want to be with us. Would it make any sense to take that money and use it for whatever programs, infrastructure, personnel, etc for immigration? My guess is that we throw away enough money to have a first class, fair, humane, and safe immigration process. Just a thought.

@Riverman2 Ha! Foreign policy is, at best, a sticky wicket and the more I understand of it, the less I know. Suffice it to say, that we could across the board cut a couple of percent of our spending in every category (wouldn't even be noticed) and fully fund anything we want to do with immigration. I agree, the money is there, we just need to hit some of those pork barrels.
