I Am Sick And Tired Of The Anti-immigration Laws

We are told by experts across the political spectrum that corporations like liberal immigration laws.

What corporations want is cheap labor that has no enforceable rights. Therefore, they would, indeed, despise well-enforced, strict, anti-immigration laws because such a system would greatly limit the number of immigrants in the country who could potentially be cheap labor with no enforceable rights. But corporations would also hate it if undocumented immigrants got a pathway to citizenship because this would result in virtually all immigrants in the country having enforceable rights.

Hence, what corporations want is tough immigration laws that are sporadically enforced. They want the laws tough so that there is no legal avenue for most people in the world to immigrate to the United States, forcing people to choose between coming illegally and not coming at all. Since the push factors which inspired them to consider seriously leaving their country are very, very strong, many will choose to come to the United States illegally. But corporations want these tough laws to be enforced only sporadically so that, at any given time, there are a lot of undocumented immigrants in the country. Undocumented immigrants do not want to come to the attention of any government agency; therefore, if their employers do not pay them the minimum wage, give them breaks, etc, then the undocumented immigrants will NOT report the situation to the government.

In this manner, corporations would like to continue to exploit desperate undocumented immigrants in order to maximize their profits. The only system that allows this to happen is one with unreasonably tough, but sporadically enforced, immigration laws.

There is no such thing as undocumented immigrants. They are in the country illegally. That is like calling a drug dealer an unlicensed pharmacist.

@tallpowerhouseblonde I'm not sure I understand what the difference is between being in the country illegally and living here without any documentation that they're legally allowed to do so. I also don't think there's any difference, really, between selling illegal drugs and selling drugs without any legal authority to do so.
tallpowerhouseblonde · 31-35, F
@33person No documentation is illegal.Selling Heroin, cocaine and more is not the same as selling prescription drugs illegally.
33person · 26-30, M
@tallpowerhouseblonde I'd argue it's not that different, because who controls the quality of the drugs when the sale of them isn't regulated? And frankly, a prescription drug, sold to the wrong person, can be just as bad for that person as cocaine.
tallpowerhouseblonde · 31-35, F
@33person Cocaine is illegal always.Prescription drugs can be given legally.Big difference.
Driver2 · M
@tallpowerhouseblonde exactly , right to the point they are fucking breaking the law
tallpowerhouseblonde · 31-35, F
@Driver2 Yes we agree. But for some the difference between legal and illegal is too much for them to understand. No career as a lawyer for them.
Driver2 · M
@tallpowerhouseblonde they understand but they play with words . It’s simple illegal should be punished not rewarded .
If your country is a mess and you are healthy stay and try to fix the problems not run away
33person · 26-30, M
@tallpowerhouseblonde It's not hard to understand what is legal and what is not legal. What's trickier is deciding what should be legal and what shouldn't be legal, and what the legal way to do things should be. I will fully acknowledge that Democrats are toxic in their tendency to stop enforcing certain laws. If you think a law is unjust and you're in congress, you should work to change the law, not to stop enforcing it.
tallpowerhouseblonde · 31-35, F
@33person Maybe you should join Congress and get the laws changed so that illegal immigrants are free to enter the U.S. without following due process.Good luck explaining to taxpayers why they are having to pay extra so illegals are provided a home and food at taxpayers expense.
It is not the duty of American taxpayers to fix other people's problems.Help other countries where possible but don't import other peoples problems.
It is also highly insulting to immigrants that have followed due process, entered the U.S. legally and filled in all required documents to see illegal immigrants with no documentation allowed in.
tallpowerhouseblonde · 31-35, F
@Driver2 Yes and it makes them part of the problem rather than a solution.
33person · 26-30, M
@tallpowerhouseblonde Changing laws so that it's legal to do illegal things? But once illegal things become legal, then they're not illegal anymore, so then that doesn't make sense. I'm also not suggesting that people who can't support themselves here should be allowed in. Of course, that's unsustainable.
tallpowerhouseblonde · 31-35, F
@33person You just tripped yourself up then with the idea of changing the law.It was you who originally suggested it here.
33person · 26-30, M
@tallpowerhouseblonde No, you just don't understand what I mean by changing the law. I am not saying to make it legal simply to cross the border and come in here without being vetted at all. I'm certainly not saying to make it legal for someone to cross the border and come in here and just live on welfare.

I'm just saying that we need to make the process take a reasonable amount of time and be more fair. That would require hiring more immigration agents and attorneys and stop giving people from certain countries favorable treatment. It shouldn't take a family of four 15 years to come here legally. That incentivizes them to try to come in illegally, especially if there's some company eager to hire someone who isn't here legally.
tallpowerhouseblonde · 31-35, F
@33person Is it not against the law to hire illegal immigrants.I'm pretty sure it is.
What is actually needed is commitment to manufacturing within the U.S. so that industry does not build factories in other countries that have better tax breaks and pay lower wages.Tesla and Apple are examples. At this rate only low paying hospitality jobs will be hiring and the U.S. economy will tank.China is being gifted the opportunity to overtake the U.S.
So illegals coming into the U.S. across the borders and manufacturing heading across the borders out of the U.S.
Record dept levels and getting worse.Crime rising fast.
Maybe immigration will sort itself out when everyone wants to leave the U.S.
Good luck.I like America. So tragic watching it all happen.
Who is going to pay for these extra attorneys? Not you I bet.Can you not take an illegal immigrant family into your home and buy their food for them?
Easy to suggest other do things. Not so easy when YOU have to sort it out yourself.
33person · 26-30, M
@tallpowerhouseblonde It's "against the law" but not really enforced that well. It's a classic example of big corporations getting what they want.

Offshoring of jobs is another issue, but it is related. It's another form of wage arbitrage, just like hiring people who are here illegally and keeping quiet about it. I think we could stand to put some of the money that currently funds all the wars here towards those immigration attorneys, etc. Some of it's reallocating taxpayer money, and some of it is that we need to make it a bit more difficult for the wealthy to avoid paying taxes on their wealth by using shell companies, stock buybacks, and a series of other "tricks" that allow them to pay as little as 0.3% of their wealth increases per year in taxes while appering, on paper, to be paying 36% in income taxes.
tallpowerhouseblonde · 31-35, F
@33person So when are YOU going to step up and do something about it instead of expecting others to do all the work and taxpayers to fund it?
In case you didn't notice the military needs more money not less. With China investing heavily in it's military expansion and a resurgent Russia your terrible ideas will leave the U.S. vulnerable to military aggression.
Stock buybacks are an excellent way for any company to reduce the outflow of cash via dividend payments. It's great business sense and has nothing to do with illegal immigration.
Offshoring jobs is also great business sense.A company is about it's products and making profits and any well run company will keep it's tax bill as low as it can.Again nothing to do with illegal immigration.
What have YOU done to help resolve immigration.Other than complain and expect other people to do all the work and burden the taxpayer.
This all sounds like a YOU problem.
33person · 26-30, M
@tallpowerhouseblonde If a commitment to manufacturing in the US is needed, then it seems you would want less offshoring of manufacturing. Offshoring is why these factories are built in these other countries.
Of course US adversaries are investing more in their militaries, but the US spends more than the next 10 countries combined, many of whom are US allies.
Stock buybacks do reduce the outflow of cash via dividend payments, of course, but they also artificially increase stock prices. No, it has nothing to do with illegal immigration, but illegal immigration and stock buybacks both pose opportunities for businesses to make more money.

What have YOU done to resolve illegal immigration and to boost US manufacturing? What have you done about US debt? Why are you, as an individual, not taking the burden of all of these problems on your shoulders? Maybe because it's not a job for one person.
tallpowerhouseblonde · 31-35, F
@33person You are doing nothing either as part of a group or as an individual.Have you wrote to the immigration officials and volunteered your services?
Have you trained as an an attorney and volunteered your services?
How much do give to charities that helps illegal immigrants?
Have you gone to the border and provided illegal immigrants with food and shelter?
No you use the excuse that more than one person is needed.
Have you formed a group of volunteers to look after illegal immigrants?
Have you joined any existing organisations or governments departments to help?
I will assume that is no.
Offshoring is done because businesses look at their choices of where to establish their manufacturing operations and discover it is better for their finances to operate in countries outside the U.S.This will continue until tax laws favour manufacturing operations in the U.S.
Share buybacks dont always increase share prices. It is dependent on what percentage of the organisation will be owned by shareholders afterwards. It can be reduced in line with a share buyback.Companues aim to to keep investors happy NOT governments. You need to understand that clearly.
How about you act instead of posting about how sick of it all you are.Get out there and do something.
Until then as before this is a YOU problem.
