What's the psychology behind parents who brag about their children's achievements to everyone

but to their kids' faces they act indifferent or even criticize them (for example "you could have done better")?

No idea what's the psychology behind it. I kinda always thought such parents where chronically grumpy, but if they brag about it with others... 😐

I want to slap them though. They are stealing the praise from an achievement from their own children. 🤬🤬🤬
