Is cancel culture real?

Kind of lol. The term itself has degraded beyond all meaning.

But I do agree and think ppl go apeshit over nothing all the time. Yeah who cares about the lady on the syrup bottle or some dumb dr.Seuss books nobody read anyway? lol.

Yeah, everyone know hp love craft was racist. His stories are still great

It's real, but it's not relegated to one side and I think its effects are often exaggerated. There was an interesting episode of the podcast "You're Wrong About" about the cancellation of the Dixie Chicks in 2003. Even back then it was swift and brutal mainly because of post-9/11 jingoism. Nowadays it's mainly done through social media. Still, in a lot of these examples, companies are "self-canceling" to get ahead of a mob that might never have been coming for them in the first place. Dr. Seuss' obscure books had been called out before, no one was threatening to cancel Dr. Seuss if they didn't remove those books from print, but for some reason they felt they had to act. 🤷‍♂️

@SW-User lol oh man I know. That’s what makes this whole thing so infuriating. The right wing absolutely loves to cancel people just as much as the left. Remember when they skewered obama over wearing a tan suit? Lol
