You can trace your ancestry with a simple swab nowadays. Alao, if your parents or grandparents ever registered as part of one of the "nations" their children and grandchildren are usually able to register. It also depends on the school whether you will get assistance for being native american. I qualify through my father, but I did not get additional funding because I did not live on tribal land. Be sure you read the paperwork from the school carefully to determine whether it is worth the hassle.
