are we surprised jason aldean is decrying "cancel culture"

while saying this song isn't about BLM? smacks of Ben Shapiro wanting to see the Barbie movie then complaining abt its "wokeness"....

"Sucker punch somebody on a sidewalk
Carjack an old lady at a red light
Pull a gun on the owner of a liquor store
Ya think it's cool, well, act a fool if ya like

Cuss out a cop, spit in his face
Stomp on the flag and light it up
Yeah, ya think you're tough

Well, try that in a small town
See how far ya make it down the road
Around here, we take care of our own
You cross that line, it won't take long
For you to find out, I recommend you don't
Try that in a small town

Got a gun that my granddad gave me
They say one day they're gonna round up
Well, that shit might fly in the city, good luck

Try that in a small town
See how far ya make it down the road
Around here, we take care of our own
You cross that line, it won't take long
For you to find out, I recommend you don't
Try that in a small town

Full of good ol' boys, raised up right
If you're looking for a fight
Try that in a small town
Try that in a small town

Try that in a small town
See how far ya make it down the road
Around here, we take care of our own
You cross that line, it won't take long
For you to find out, I recommend you don't
Try that in a small town

Try that in a small town
Ooh-ooh
Try that in a small town"

The video:
[media=https://youtu.be/b1_RKu-ESCY]

Verdict: Nothing to see here. I don't see the issue. The lyrics are too generic to call any particular group out, and I'm not offended because I don't intend on doing any of those things in the lyrics, which are fucking horrific. Someone want to defend those actions? I'll have nothing to say in that case.

If he wanted to really stir the pot, he could have gone farther, but he didn't.

@uncalled4 lol you don't think it would grandly affect his bottom line to outright say, "those n words deserved it"? he is singing in front of a smaller white house-like image..talking about crossing a line like the police supporting blue line..and showing images from the riot, all under the guise of patriotism
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@foldedunfolding If he's trying to make some bold statement, he has failed imo. Now, if you want to point to a specific lyric that I might have missed, I'm all ears. I don't get this one. I was expecting something Childish Gambino-level of a statement and this is...not that.
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@uncalled4 childish gambino actually had a good point to make..that is the diff lol

@uncalled4 look into what footage they used and where they filmed. You might think differently.

@SW-User wowww i just looked it up..he was right. lynching site..that is beyond wilddd.
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@SW-User as if aldean wasnt already an ass for cheating on his wife
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@uncalled4 "Aldean..performs in front of the Maury County Courthouse in Columbia, Tennessee. This is the site of the 1946 Columbia race riot and the 1927 mob lynching of an 18-year-old Black teenager named Henry Choate.

Aldean's video, which was released last Friday, has received fervent criticism online, with some claiming the visual is a 'dog whistle' and others labeling it 'pro-lynching.'"
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@uncalled4 "This isn't the first time Aldean has been at the center of controversy. In 2015, he made headlines for dressing as rapper Lil Wayne as a Halloween costume, wearing blackface makeup and a wig with dreadlocks"

@foldedunfolding I'm not really into his music, but I felt bad when he was playing during the Las Vegas shooting, but now, I'm not sure if he's such an honorable guy.
SW-User
@foldedunfolding the whole video is laced with questionable choices. It's disgusting.
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@SW-User he picks and chooses! now that he was in that huge shooting, and now that it affects him he says guns are too easy to get....all while praising them in his songs
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@SW-User I will definitely check that out. I know next to nothing about the guy.
SW-User
@uncalled4 I'm not a fan, but the video says what the lyrics are really saying. He got caught basically.
SW-User
@foldedunfolding yeah, I feel for him with the concert, traumatic experience, no doubt, even though he was safely taken off stage, but this is pure bs. He knows exactly what he's doing, as does whoever produced the video.

@SW-User i was in indiana a few months before the shooting at greenwood mall..and i WENT to that mall. my sister was there during the shooting. i asked my trump-supporting dad if he still thought AR-15's were the move, and got screamed at for "using this hardship with my sister" to be "political". a "good guy with a gun" took the bad guy out..but the good guy..was not supposed to have a gun at the mall either
SW-User
@foldedunfolding people are so afraid of losing something.
Very sorry you were so close to a tragedy like that. Hope your sister is ok.
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@SW-User thank you..she had left just in time..she is a trump supporter too
SW-User
@foldedunfolding ugh 😕 glad she was ok
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
@SW-User thanks..what is also really bad is..she was walking out of a grocery store in broad daylight..a guy came up and knifed her purse off her shoulder..he had her id and address, everything
SW-User
@foldedunfolding sometimes people think because of those things that happen the response has to be extreme and they get a little paranoid and grandiose about it all.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@foldedunfolding Just looked up the lynching site. OK, he officially lost me. He doesn't get to claim moral high ground using that backdrop.
