I Am A Real Werewolf

While physical traits can and do make people shifters/weres, there are certain traits that don't indicate any sort of shifter or were biology or heritage.

Having sharp "fangs" or canine teeth does not make you a werewolf. Many people have those, and having sharper canines than usual doesn't hint that you're a shifter.

Having a temper does not make you a werewolf, or any kind of shifter. Wolves are not temperamental animals-most wild wolves flee from humans, or might watch curiously, but they are certainly not animals who are prone to anger. Humans can be a bit more temperamental, but even then they're not usually angry without reason. If you're pissed off all the time and angry, that's probably specific to you, and is more than likely a human trait.

Liking meat does not make you a werewolf. Humans like meat too. There wouldn't be any meat selling in the stores if there wasn't a demand for it, and you wouldn't have it in your house if someone didn't enjoy eating it. Even around the world, in some cultures people enjoy and eat raw meat, so in case you've somehow managed to eat some and claim that this is how you know you're a werewolf...this is not a werewolf trait.

Growing hair where there was no hair before is not a sign of being a werewolf. It is a sign you're going through puberty though, and probably didn't notice it until now. Additionally, if you were a werewolf, it doesn't take months of hair growth to change forms-werewolves would be quite noticeable if that were the case.

Liking the moon is not a sign of being a werewolf. The moon is pretty, yes, but enjoying it doesn't mean you're a werewolf. Again, that's a normal human thing-many people like seeing the planets that occupy our solar system. We wouldn't have NASA and telescopes if that weren't the case.

Having a wolf spirit does not mean you're a werewolf. I've heard people say that because they have a wolf spirit, or identify as a wolf, they can shift, but having an "inner wolf" of sorts does not guarantee that you're a werewolf. Therians and otherkin do exist, and they also identify as wolves (and other creatures), yet cannot shift.

Remember, being a werewolf is a literal, physical thing. There's not a lot of precursors that can hint at you being a werewolf, and the most surefire way to know is to shift in some fashion.

And, for those who think that just because they have all these traits and experience weird sensations they're a werewolf or shifter of some sort, there is a shift called a pseudo shift, in which people experience certain bodily sensations that may feel like shifting, including muscle spasms and slight pain associated with the event. It's normally harmless, from what I've heard, but it can be frightening for someone who's never experienced it before. Pseudo shifts can occur during sleep, unlike most physical shifts, and can even be uncomfortable. However, this kind of shift, like other shifts besides physical, does not result in a physical transformation.

Why am I putting this here? Just to clarify that a lot of experiences that younger people might claim are their body transforming are in fact normal experiences, that most people can go through. Even some of the more unique experiences, like having a wolf spirit, does not imply that you're literally, physically a werewolf. Werewolves (and other shifters) are like any other group of people, with a variety of traits, both mental and physical. You can have all of these traits and not be a shifter, and you can have none of these traits, and be a shifter. The only thing all share in common is being able to shift into another form.

Are there faery, mermaid, and lamia shifters? By lamia I mean snake-girl. Or do these creatures tend to stick to one form instead and not bother with moving between human and not?

@aqualovecrystal I personally believe so, though I'd think people shifting into these forms would just class as general "shifters" or "shapeshifters". That is something I'm not too sure about though.
