How to develop Creativity?

Are you a creative?
(I think everyone is potentially)
What are your recommendations on developing creativity?
A book i read recently essentially recommended narrowing your focus to become successful as a creative, but im not really bothered about the success part, more the developing part.

So when I want to paint I usually start with ideas from others. I like trying to give new spin on existing art. And after that it kinda flows.

I also saw a TikTok the other day, a dude that never knew how to draw bought a sketchbook.

He started daily to play with the pen and just scribbling random lines.

After the idk what day he started making forms and after that he started making those forms into cool bird and a giraffe and umbrella sketches. It was pretty cool to see the progress.

I've always been creative in many areas, but I specifically remember whenever I was in school and bored or not even bored, I filled the margines of the books with tiny artsy random scribbles.
Or blank pages with busy random art.i filled out every space.

I guess the dudes technique can be applied in every area? Start with the basics I mean.

I can't say what works for anyone but me, but for many years I tried this and that creative hobby - things I wanted to do.

After trying a half dozen or so, I found what best suited me.

Then I got into it to the exclusion of all else and the more I did, the more the creative juices began to flow.

So I think it's not so much as focusing, but trying different creative pursuits until one tells you where your heart and talent belong.

Write, draw or photograph daily.

Oh, one more thing - something you noted, but worth saying. Trying to be successful ruins the fun and enjoyment - I've created things that people want to buy and I I don't and won't go there.

I do it for me, and success is when I'm happy witht what I'm doing.

@Ontheroad funny thing, it has been said that artists exhibitionists, they get joy exposing their "inner self" to others through their art work.

@samueltyler2 you are right. I've known a couple of good artists who derived a good bit of pleasure from this.

I enjoyed a few compliments on some of my work, and that some wanted to buy them, but it wasn't the kind of enjoyment that had me jumping at the financial side of success.

@Ontheroad i have had my paintings and photos included in some group shows, and stood listening to comments. Listening to the applause after playing tunes by our band is very exciting.

I think it was a john cleese book I read that said one of the keys was to not be afraid to fail and to be around people who won't judge too hardshly on missteps. I think one of the best things is to be around other creative people.

Lately I was feeling like I didn't have a single original thought left, until seeking out small obscure RPG-maker games – even in languages I don't know like Chinese, because what appeals to one culture is often different from what appeals to another, so it may make you think in ways that you haven't before. Generally speaking I think that things like music, games, and stories which are super unknown, are the best sources of inspiration! They didn't appeal to the masses, and the masses tend to be attracted to familiarity (so terrible for creativity which comes from new inputs) + they're often on a lower level of quality which funny enough can make you feel more excited about creating your own things, since the standard set by comparison feels more achievable. {=
