Science is always changing but the Bible stays the same.

This is something i often hear about science when it contradicts a specific interpretation of the Bible and is deployed as a criticism as if it is a weakness rather than a strength.

Can someone who feels this way explain to me why it is a BAD thing to change one's position on the basis of new evidence and a GOOD thing to hold to a position despite contradictory evidence?

That's why science is much better than the bible.

Gods worse than dead, he's boring. Especially because he never changes.

I do consider changing one's position in the face of new information to be a virtue rather than a weakness.

@Pikachu I'm just bored as fuck with religion at this point because it's like well at least science actually CHANGES every now and then enough to reveal new information and when it does it's of interest, religion just remains a fossil that never does anything useful or changes. especially christian religion.
I agree with you that it's a flaw that it never changes. it's stated like some kind of merit. like wtf?

The Bible is written eyewitness testimony. They were there. Science is conjectural. Guessing. The Bible is often "thought" to be wrong. Science is often proven to be wrong. Science is a weather forecast. The Bible reported on the scene.

@BibleData "Eyewitness testimony" so worthless as it's not data. Anecdotal. humans are frail and their perceptions often are cloudy. Who's to say the writers of the new testament weren't experiencing psychosis?

You don't see the irony?

@BibleData how can the bible be eyewitness testimony when it was written 600 years after Christ?

@Ryderbike He doesn't get it. he's like one of those they told us eggs were good for us one year and then only the whites than the yolks and health science has changed every year so it's too empheral and it's like Gravity hasn't gone away, has it? Nor has evolution since Darwin. Or thermodynamics.

He's talking about it like someone who doesn't know very much about science. Mankind knowledge grows over time. Science isn't like weather, sometimes we discover new information, we change a mind, but over time it only gets more accurate at making predictions.

whereas prophecy will fail time after time. Religion will always be the same ole useless fucking boring fossilized shell it was. Nothing new will ever come from it. God is so much worse than dead, he's in a word: BORRRRRINNGGGGG.

@Ryderbike I'd rather watch paint dry, it would certainly be more fun than church.
