" To see ourselves as others see us" American Politics

I got to thinking about how Americans are being prepared for these Mid terms and how biased the reporting is. Here is an Australian program, which uses material freely available in America. It would be interesting to know how much of this is actually seen in America..😷

Interesting you should ask this question about Americans seeing what Australians see on the Ozy news networks.

About 15 years ago, CNN use to broadcast what was called regular CNN Domestic, in addition to what was then called CNN International.

CNN International however, was not actually broadcast from within continental USA. It was actually broadcast from UK and points east. At the time however, Canadians could tune-in to CNN International even if they didn't subscribe to a cable TV provider in Canada, meaning that you could pickup CNN International from your local TV provider with rabbit ears on your TV from a farmhouse 200 miles north of Toronto.

What's important to understand here however, is that 15 years ago, CNN International was not actually broadcast ANYWHERE in the USA, even if you were an American who subscribed to cable TV.

CNN International was more like the BBC is today, which of course is just factual news reporting without all the American political BS that we've all come to otherwise know and love about Americans.

Americans in continental USA were purposely shielded from those CNN International broadcasts most likely by the US government and therefore shielded from learning their own truth, unlike the rest of the world, particularly America's neighbor to the north, who knew more about what was going on in the USA than American citizens were ever privy to.

Another thing to keep in mind is that almost no local American TV stations broadcast anything you see happening today on CNN or FoxNews. In fact, local American TV stations only broadcast what is relevant in each State, as long as it's not political.

Most Americans in the USA do not subscribe to cable TV, simply because they either can't afford it, or their little towns and villages do not have cable TV infrastructure in place since those towns are spread-out so widely across the American landscape (which ain't pretty, so save your gas for shopping).

The only place they have cable TV in the USA is in major centers where large cities proliferate the farmland. Those Americans who live in the 'big city' however, do not sit around watching CNN or FoxNews, but instead busy their minds with Netflix or other home entertainment venues which they stream 'live' instead of going out to the Roxy Theatre to see the same thing.

The home TV has subsequently become a home theatre for Americans, not a place to tune-in to find out about their status on the world stage.

To your question then, it is highly unlikely that any American, even those who are on vacation in Australia, would think to perhaps watch the video you provided, simply because as far as Americans are concerned, if it doesn't directly affect them individually, then it's someone else's problem.

@swirlie Lets rephrase that and say that the job is too important to let Americans do it..But give it a few decades and America will be no more important than France or Britain are today. Nations who also had their 15 minutes of fame..😷

I'd agree with that! That being the case as the US falls off the world stage, I don't see any real relevance in pondering who the next US President will be.
