The United States makes no sense

Young adults when they turn 18 can go off to war . They can smoke ( not advisable) and legally make their own choices with the exception of gambling and drinking alcohol. ( granted gambling and drinking alcohol are also not advisable). They can drive death traps also known as cars on the road at 16. If you are going to be treated like an adult either make everything legal at 18 or everything legal at 21. The U.S. makes no sense. Just an observation.

as opposed to what? public transit isn't practical here in most places given the size of country/vast distances, and in reality, is no safer

also, hard to work an afterschool job without fast, reliable transportation...

No it’s the age of 21 they can drink and do drugs, don’t live there

I was driving at 13 because my family lived on and worked a farm . I had a license at 16 to drive legally on public roads … no issues. They are death traps for drunken or impaired drivers , not responsible ones.

Responsibility can be very reasonably attained at a young age. Necessity determines when that occurs.

In times of war … any able-bodied man may be called into service or try to lie about their age to join up .

Alcohol often requires more time for responsibility to prevail.

The law is what it is , politicians do what they do , and the American people have accepted it regardless of whether foreigners find it acceptable or not. 🤷🏻‍♀
