I have heard the USA 🇺🇸 is celebrating 250 years of independence. What does it mean to you?

There are lots of American families who are relatively new comers to the USA, so perhaps it doesn’t resonate with you so much.

I’m the descendant of enslaved persons here since the 1700s, so when the U.S. celebrates 250 years of “freedom”, I see an asterisk*.

American exceptionalism is a fad nowadays it seems to me, it's unravelling, perhaps there can be a salvaging of it in November though.

I feel like us sliding back into most of the worst moments of our past on a bicentennial anniversary is pretty poetic

This year will feel and seem a bit different than years past. Being involved in a conflict over seas again is certainly disappointing.

Looking at the current administration, but cynicism wants to say, "Been nice, too bad democracy is over." Other than that reaction, it will have no effect on my life. I don't even celebrate my own birthdays these days.
