I am sad for them as you are, but also sad for the rest of us, not only in the US but in the entire world. They have cut food aid for poor children in other countries. They have increased hatred and disrespect for the US everywhere. They have made hate and discrimination a thing, as well as not helping those most in need. they have made greed and tax breaks for the ultra wealthy and large corporations a real harm to the rest of us, who end up paying more. They have worked to undermine basic American principles like freedom of speech, the right to protest, a free press. And there is more...

@Docdon23 I agree, but they ar feeding into this "ideal America" that has never existed and never will with their ideology. Their desires are based on the dreams of those who are using them.

Sadly, that means everyone else suffers, which, is actually what they have been taught to want. To punish everyone else who aren't them. Currently, they feel justfied and getting their retribution against those they've been told are holding them back from a life they will never actually have.

Yard dogs are never anything more than yard dogs. They aren't allowed into the luxurious house because they are dirty, mangy and flea infested, but still told they are very good bois.

@FoxyGoddess Their ideal America is a fantasy. They think the past resembled Main Street at a Disney amusement park or something from Leave it to Beaver or the Andy Griffith show.

@FoxyGoddess I could not agree more! Well said. This "American" idea that people are rewarded in life economically for how hard they work or their value is a joke. If that were the case, then nurses, police, firemen, teachers would be the highest paid, and corporate owners who make stuff would not...I know people who work very hard at two jobs just to make ends meet...and others whose backgrounds seriously hinder their income possibilities...and to think musk or drump deserve their billions from their value to society or hard work is laughable...

Yes, yes and yes. When I was first comparing MAGA to the Nazi movement, people were saying things like, "get back to me when they start putting people in concentration camps". I recently sent them news articles about the ICE detention centers, with people who were snatched off the street.

Hitler wasn’t the monster the world discovered him to be on the first day. He built up to it with the things he was able to do in his position of authority, crimes he was able to commit with impunity. And on and on…until the world was basically on fire.

And so it seems to be happening with Trump and the MAGAs.

I also want to underline the Democrats were complict in all of it. Never once have they pulled in the opposite direction and rather just used the Republicans' unhinged behaviour as a way to appeal to the centre and be the "not thems".

Fascism only takes root when there is widespread dissatisfaction with the system. Quality of life keeps going down no matter who is in charge and the Democrats have offered literally no alternative path just more of the same.

Well put! This post and the replies give me some hope the U.S. will someday find a way out of the mess they have made!
It's been a long game, hasn't it.

@robingoodfellow It really has. It picked up momentum when Obama was in office, mostly because of racism. His being black created the Tea Party movement, which was really just white Christian supremacy in disguise. It was literally created in 2009 as a response. Then, the people of 4chan made it a bigger movement, which now involved conspiracy theories, which Alex Jones made his living off of. (Incidentally, Alex Jones is also the reason that most of the trump supporters are huge supplement buyers and "natural living", anti-vaxers. He started a lot of that bs)

So it is no surprise that when covid hit, 4chan was able to create QAnon, which was originally a long time running joke on the site, but, because so many people went there during shut down, had no idea it had been a long running joke, easily fell for it and believed in it.

The basic thing I wanted to get across in this post is that is isn't one thing that has brought us here. There are numerous paths that all converged, some intentional, some just opportunistic, but they have all converged into this horrendous mess.

It's impossible to blame one thing or another when it has been a myriad of things; racism, xenophobia, illiteracy, ignorance, lack of critical thinking, spiritual bypassing, misinformation propagators, propaganda, lack of education, lack of understanding how government works and what it does, fear, hate, etc. They a played their part in this and the lack of push back from those who could have changed the trajectory, but their lifestyle required keeping the status quo. Those who could have done the right things to avoid this had no motivation to do so and failed the American people.
