Was Renee shot and killed? Yes.
Was there a officer in front of her car as she accelerated and she ended up hitting him? Yes.
Can a car be a deadly weapon? Yes.
Was a car a deadly weapon in this circumstance? Yes. (If it weren't for the ice, she would have accelerated much faster)
Was she trying to get away and deescalate? Most likely not, since her wife was outside of car yelling "drive baby drive".
Whether you agree or disagree with her politics or about the circumstances leading up to the incident, the simple fact is, you cannot run over people in your car. If you drive over someone willingly and they live, and you get caught, it's attempted murder and you spend years in jail. If you do it to law enforcement, they will take measures to subdue you, and you can't fire non lethal rounds though a windshield or tase her.
What is so frustrating is everyone jumping to one side or the other without looking at facts. Should the officer been in front of her car? Maybe there's a safer place for him to be? Can we train them to stay at safe points? But maybe they know something we don't, like, was she actively trying to run over things and they are placing themselves as a barrier (literally risking their lives with the hope that the driver isn't so stupid they still run over someone).
Maybe you arrest them sooner, so it never gets to that point. Impeding an investigation and/or enforcement operation should never be tolerated. Police put their lives on the line day after day, and you can disagree with the laws, and maybe some are jerks but they deal with this daily. It's easy to sit back and say they could have handled it differently, but start having people driving at you day after day, when they seem sane one minute and murderous the next, and if bet it's quite different.
My question to you would be, what about the situation makes you think it was murder, and what is your definition of murder?
