Columbus discovered America.... ok... 😆

He discovered America for Europe, which undoubtedly changed the course of history for the better.
@BohoBabe I mean not really. The vikings "discovered" the US before him. Also the latter is questionable.

@HijabaDabbaDoo But the vikings didn't colonize the Americas. Their discovery didn't really help in the building of America as a nation.
@BohoBabe because they went there for resources not to colonise. Granted the building of many nations started out the same way, it doesn't make it worth glorifying

@HijabaDabbaDoo Yeah, my point is that Columbus was important because he discovered the land for Europe, which played an important role in America's history. No shade to the vikings, I don't want to be pillaged, but their discovery wasn't really a part of America's history.

Whether we should be glorifying exploration is a different issue, but I think it's mostly a good thing.
