Direct democracy is mob rule anytime 50.0001 vote they can change everything they can even legally bring back slavery. You would loose all rights under direct democracy.

@dale74 currently we don’t have democracy and the current president received less than 50% of votes; neither candidate “won” by that standard of democracy ( a majority of votes) As I’ve previously stated the runoff election that should have been held was instead subverted by an antiquated institution ( the electoral college) designed to add weight to a state’s voting total based on the number of enslaved person residing in that state (at the time of its advent those territories were actually known as colonies, fun fact). If you wanna be real about the situation the “illegal votes” cast were by electors misrepresenting the popular vote adding weight to states with fewer people. Even so; no candidate received more than 50% of votes. Therefore no one “won”and the chosen winner is a convicted felon and known cheat! His veto power is nullified in states where felons do not have the right to vote. If you wanna be an adult unlike the fraudulently elected & failed “businessman” and felon Trump let’s have a discussion about reality. I await your response

@exchrist that's where I fully disagree with you, because like I said democracy, is mob rule. A Republic, it means that people have rights, democracy. It does not actually have any rights because all rights can be taken away by a simple majority vote, whereas in a Republic to remove rights. You must have that three forths vote. Democracy is nothing more but slavery for fifty percent.

Let's just say conservative Republicans, we're the majority by 50% + 1 vote. They could demand that all government assistants end immediately for everyone. They could also demand that everybody must have a job now. Would you like it if that happened? No you wouldn't but that is democracy.

@dale74 in 1938 at the time of the passage of the Marihuana tax act of 1937 the same species of hemp upon which the Declaration of Independence and original constitution are written was Cannabis Rhudderalis Kentucki. Native to North America. At the time that species was utilized with an ethanol extraction process using hemp press after being saturated with alcohol to yield 300 barrel an acre (about 2.3 hectares) and gasoline was less than $1 a gallon.

@dale74 and as noted it is not a democracy it is a democratic republic so what are you getting at? I know the legislature rarely represents the opinion or interest of its constituents accurately. Only those of its largest donors And by the time it does most opportunities have been missed.
