why can't Europeans point out where West Virginia is on a map? Where is your sophistication?

SW-User
@pancakeslam Because the states are all part of one country, that's why. It's like, could you point out where Co. Wexford is on a map of Ireland if you weren't Irish?

SW-User
@pancakeslam Exactly. Each country in Europe is an independent country.
pancakeslam · 41-45, M
@SW-User so you visit 25 countries you have to say each one

SW-User
@pancakeslam Yes.

SW-User
@SW-User For example. I've visited UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Holland, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Romania, Austria, Russia, and Malta in Europe. 17 countries. I've said them all.

@SW-User let's see...
stranger: where are you going?
you: UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Holland, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Romania, Austria, Russia, and Malta
stranger: what?
you:UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Holland, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Romania, Austria, Russia, and Malta
stranger: so what are you going to do in UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Holland, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Romania, Austria, Russia, and Malta?
you: in UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Holland, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Romania, Austria, Russia, and Malta I'm going to sightsee.
stranger: I hear UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Holland, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Romania, Austria, Russia, and Malta are just lovely.
whereas you could've just said Europe and saved your breath.

SW-User
@pancakeslam Each of these countries is a fully independent, self-sufficient state with its own cultures, languages and sights. And btw I didn't visit them all on one trip.
pancakeslam · 41-45, M
@SW-User nobody is disputing that but I can still recommend the latter way of speaking

SW-User
@pancakeslam I don't actually get your point.
pancakeslam · 41-45, M
@SW-User saying the names of 25 countries is too verbose

SW-User
@pancakeslam No American makes a trip to Europe and visits 25 countries.
pancakeslam · 41-45, M
@SW-User I went to 16

SW-User
@pancakeslam cool. In one trip? And how long was the trip?
pancakeslam · 41-45, M
@SW-User yes in one trip I traveled as far west as Portugal. I was in the Scandinavian countries, Baltic countries, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, and on the Mediterranean. it took almost 3 months and I had a rail pass.

SW-User
@pancakeslam Now that's what I like to hear!
