The southern states can be untrustworthy.

(1) Mexicans welcomed for centuries as hard workers asking little pay.
(2) Mexicans re-branded as disease carrying criminals and bused north to fix blame on a Democratic central government: this in a desperate bid to get more bigoted southern hypocrites elected.

I lived in southern states for almost 20 years. I think I saw more independent owners of businesses in the south that were owned by immigrants and minorities than any other place I have lived. Texas for example has a ton of businesses that are owned and operated by Hispanics. Immigration when the country was forming was necessary, there weren't enough people in the country to fill needed jobs and expand. Things are different in 2020 than they were in 1820 or 1920. I travel to other countries for work, if I go to Canada for a job, I usually have to provide a letter from the business in Canada explaining why I am traveling from the US to do a job in Canada, why isn't a Canadian doing that job? I am required to tell them how long I will be in the country and where I will be during the stay in Canada. If I go to Panama or France or any other country for that matter including Mexico, there are requirements for entry.
