Planning to go back to the 'States. Where should I go?

I will have to visit family in SoCal, I'm not really interested in Vegas: If I landed on the East Coast for a month or two vacation, where would you recommend an Englishman should visit?

Thanks to everyone for their recommendations. I've now got the big map out and seeing how much I can fit into a two-month visit, including family in SC, Wa, Chicago, SF, SoCal and wherever else! XXXXXX
