Planning to go back to the 'States. Where should I go?

I will have to visit family in SoCal, I'm not really interested in Vegas: If I landed on the East Coast for a month or two vacation, where would you recommend an Englishman should visit?

I suppose it depends on how long you intend to take/route/travel means, I'd suggest one of the coast-to-coast rail car rides; in theory, you can see almost all of the US at various levels. it won't be fast or terribly cheap, but you'll be sleeping in the same place every night. I think the trip is usually about a week.
