On east coast (north)? Boston/Newport RI/White mountains in NH

@WaryWitchWandering Probably arrive in JFK, Newport sounds good coz I'm a great fan of Paul Simon.

@CharlesRomsey I work up around Boston and our other house is in Newport. Both are cool places, but Nantucket blows both away. If you can’t stay there, at least spend 3-4 days. It’s insanely beautiful and has great, clean, uncrowded beaches that go on for miles.

@Adogslife Cheers. Bit of a history buff, so I want to visit Philly and Virginia rather than beaches. Think I'll probably start there and head down into real civil war country.

@CharlesRomsey There’s a lot in Boston, but you lost that war. The Civil War was mostly fought in Virginia and Tennessee.

@CharlesRomsey Think about Frederick, Maryland. And Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and Antietam (Sharpsburg) Maryland. Boonsboro, Maryland. Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Frederick has become a real restaurant destination with a beautiful historic district. Barbara Fritchie's house is there (which is probably based on a fable, but still). "Shoot, if you will, this old gray head.......". The Museum of Civil War Medicine is in Frederick, too. I have no excuse for never having gone there. There is the C&O Canal towpath in Maryland, too, if the weather is not too miserably hot. Emmitsburg, Maryland is a cute little town in northern Maryland, not that far from Gettysburg.
