Gonna get hate for this

Has America finally started decline? With so much internal division over a number of issues could this be the end of the United part? All great powers have a decline or a fall maybe America is headed for its own. Left and right constantly fighting a former president who almost triggered a major political and ideological shift to authoritarianism. Judges overturn things like they are trival matters which could have disastrous long-term implications.
Could this be it? The slow descent into chaos and divison which could see the states splitting up. I know theres a lot of nationalist pride here but you cannot stay at the top forever money and military power only go so far when you start to crumble from within there is little that can be done.

It’s declining in that people are trying to move things backwards.

It was no Shangri-la before.

We had slavery. After the slaves were freed, we had a system of apartheid that lasted well into the 20th century.

We murdered the indigenous people, or kept them segregated, stole their land, made treaties and promptly broke them, interfered with their culture and their children’s lives.

Women were disenfranchised, treated as second-class citizens.

We didn’t even acknowledge LGBT individuals, except to criminalize and persecute them.

All this in a land we boasted was “the land of the free”.

The mid to late 20th century was when we began to reverse these injustices, but now we’re seeing a backlash from ignorant religious fanatics who somehow think things were better when we had someone to oppress.

In fact, they see the equality of others as their oppression. Unbelievable.

We can only move upwards. We’ve seen the worst already.

@bijouxbroussard I agree. Those extreme right wingers are a cancer on society. Mostly white male nationalist misogynist evangelicals. But from what I see, they are losing adherents now.
