you have been in dire straits for decades thanks to your generous social policiesand you keep taking in too many immigrants
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@1490wayb
I hope my words inspire you to laugh and smile

Not on this occasion, unfortunately.
@1490wayb !!! WRONG !!!

Actually, Canada and the rest of the developed world have FAR more generous social policies. They offer universal health care, bettter pre-K support, and better retirement policies.

Regarding immigrants, among developed nations Germany and Poland are consistently top hosts of refugees relative to their population size, with Germany hosting over 2.75 million (roughly 3.4% of its population).

The US is in dire straits mostly due to the pernicious lie that tax cuts will eventually pay for themselves. This hasn't happened in the 45 years since Reagan preached it, but the urge to get something for nothing is too strong and prevents sound fiscal policy.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@ElwoodBlues The present UK Government is not cutting taxes. It is increasing them, one effect being making it far harder to run businesses and employ anyone.

What our governments of both parties have done since the Conservatives at the same time as the Reaganb era is cutting, cutting and cutting public services, and giving away vast amounts of assets to foreign companies, stock-markets and even countries. This worship of so-called "inward investment" is as naive as the term's grammar, for its result obvious to anyone except a politician is that it is tantamount to giving the country's money away abroad.

Probably about 5 to 10% drop in our standard of living

This will affect our children’s welfare, education. Demands on social services.
More burden on our health sevice.
Our decaying infrastructure will get worse.

Already we are experiencing price rises of 10%.
There will be shortages too of food, pharmaceuticals..

Our life expectancy will reduce.
Julien · 36-40, M
@Julien Rejoining will be on completely punitive terms. The French will see to that..😷
Julien · 36-40, M
@whowasthatmaskedman have you been reading the news lately ? Notably Jean Noel Barrot’s speech ?
The eu isn’t perfect but it’s better in than out
@Julien I had not. I confess I was in favour of Britain leaving. Of course, no one foresaw Covid or the stupid terms that Boris left under. his friends were supposed to make the killing that never came. But Covid and Trump changed the game. If Britain could walk back in, with all forgiven they should.😷
specman · 51-55, M
What sacrifice is the UK making?
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@Waveney

The IAEA reports from 2015-2018 only reported on what they knew then.

The IAEA report of 2025 is what they know now about then.

You remind me of how the Council on Foreign Relations (linked previously) characterized the Obama administration's reaction to evidence of Iran's attempts at cheating:

"And what is the reaction from the Obama administration, and other cheerleaders for the JCPOA? Nothing.

John Kerry famously said “Iran deserves the benefits of the agreement they struck.” They do not deserve to be allowed to cheat. Kerry said in April when asked if Iran would “stick to the key terms of this deal for the next 20 years” that “I have faith and confidence that we will know exactly what they’re doing during that period of time. And if they decide to try to cheat, we will know it, [ 🤣 ] and there are plenty of options available to us. That I have complete faith and confidence in.” "
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@Thinkerbell But Israel attacking all their neighbours is fine in your twisted world. Very strange.
Elessar · 31-35, M
@specman You've just demonstrated what I wanted to to be demonstrate. Thank you 🥂

It isn't about terrorism

It isn't about nukes
So the remainder of the Epstein files don't get released.
That would be America..
Bumbles · 56-60, M
The US is more of an enemy to Europe than Iran.
Elessar · 31-35, M
@Bumbles The US isn't (yet) supplying Russia with military hardware. Iran is.

I'm no fan of Trump but saying that the Iranian regime isn't hostile to Europe is dangerously naive
peterlee · M
@Elessar Sadly, we no longer see the USA as an ally. Such is the damage done.
H1raeth · 36-40, M
More inflation then? That sucks.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
A sacrifice in a political or military sense implies a degree of choice. Here we (UK) are being dragged down by the side effects of a war between three other countries, a war of dubious purpose, morality, legality and conclusion.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@emiliya Britain attacked that nice Herr Hitler after he started invading other countries. Russia joined in too, I seem to remember.
emiliya · 26-30, F
@FreddieUK I said: “Even Hitler had to change his mind about things. He didn't plan to war with Britain, but what else could he do after you attacked him? He thought you were great until you did that.”

Is this wrong? What do you think I am saying?

Hitler had no plans to attack Britain. Hitler admired the British and wanted alliance with Britain. This changed when Britain attacked German warships days after Germany went into Poland. When that and the Norway campaign failed, Churchill came to the rescue, taking over from Chamberlain. Göring told Hitler to go hard in the early days of what you call Battle of Britain and he refused. That cost him.

“Russia joined in too, I seem to remember.”

No. Russia was ally of Germany until Barbarossa. Stalin didn't care about your war with Hitler. Russia joined when Hitler invaded Russia. You will notice it wasn't an invasion of Britain that prompted you to join, or do you think Poland is Britain?

For making sure Iran does not have nuclear capabilities. Absolutely no one will be safe if they do.
peterlee · M
@Musicman Is that Trump’s objective?
It was regime change.

What is his mate Benjamin’s?
Stephie · 22-25, F
@peterlee Benjamin is not his mate, he is the puppet of Benjamin and that is a big difference.
Stephie · 22-25, F
@Stephie Thanks for the gift. It comes in handy 🤭

@Stephie I think there's a non-zero chance that would trigger an invasion of Greenland simultaneously with one of Estonia/Latvia/Lithuania by the orc side
Stephie · 22-25, F
@Elessar America has to be very careful now. Trump's personal war in Iran is now totally derailing. He thought he could pull the same trick as with Venezuela. Stealing oil and uranium from other nations is now backfiring on him because Iran is much stronger and is able to oppose a much higher resistance.

At this rate, the US are losing that war and that is going to have a devastating personal impact for him.
