What sacrifice is the UK making?
Thinkerbell · 41-45, F
@hippyjoe1955

My, my... those Israelis are really ambitious, eh?

Did you read that in The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, perchance?
Waveney · 41-45, M
@Thinkerbell And they were never going to acquire a nuclear weapon. There was no possibility AT ALL that they were even CLOSE to having a nuclear weapon.

Probably about 5 to 10% drop in our standard of living

This will affect our children’s welfare, education. Demands on social services.
More burden on our health sevice.
Our decaying infrastructure will get worse.

Already we are experiencing price rises of 10%.
There will be shortages too of food, pharmaceuticals..

Our life expectancy will reduce.
Julien · 36-40, M
@Julien Rejoining will be on completely punitive terms. The French will see to that..😷
Julien · 36-40, M
@whowasthatmaskedman have you been reading the news lately ? Notably Jean Noel Barrot’s speech ?
The eu isn’t perfect but it’s better in than out
@Julien I had not. I confess I was in favour of Britain leaving. Of course, no one foresaw Covid or the stupid terms that Boris left under. his friends were supposed to make the killing that never came. But Covid and Trump changed the game. If Britain could walk back in, with all forgiven they should.😷

you have been in dire straits for decades thanks to your generous social policiesand you keep taking in too many immigrants
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@1490wayb
I hope my words inspire you to laugh and smile

Not on this occasion, unfortunately.
@1490wayb !!! WRONG !!!

Actually, Canada and the rest of the developed world have FAR more generous social policies. They offer universal health care, bettter pre-K support, and better retirement policies.

Regarding immigrants, among developed nations Germany and Poland are consistently top hosts of refugees relative to their population size, with Germany hosting over 2.75 million (roughly 3.4% of its population).

The US is in dire straits mostly due to the pernicious lie that tax cuts will eventually pay for themselves. This hasn't happened in the 45 years since Reagan preached it, but the urge to get something for nothing is too strong and prevents sound fiscal policy.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@ElwoodBlues The present UK Government is not cutting taxes. It is increasing them, one effect being making it far harder to run businesses and employ anyone.

What our governments of both parties have done since the Conservatives at the same time as the Reaganb era is cutting, cutting and cutting public services, and giving away vast amounts of assets to foreign companies, stock-markets and even countries. This worship of so-called "inward investment" is as naive as the term's grammar, for its result obvious to anyone except a politician is that it is tantamount to giving the country's money away abroad.
So the remainder of the Epstein files don't get released.
That would be America..
H1raeth · 36-40, M
More inflation then? That sucks.
Bumbles · 56-60, M
The US is more of an enemy to Europe than Iran.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
A sacrifice in a political or military sense implies a degree of choice. Here we (UK) are being dragged down by the side effects of a war between three other countries, a war of dubious purpose, morality, legality and conclusion.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@emiliya You raised the matter of being female. I asked how you would run a country if you were its President, and you dodged the question but saying you couldn't be because you are a woman.

There is no reason why a woman cannot be a president or prime-minister - except perhaps in some rigid theocracies that treat women as inferior beings. It probably won't happen in a hurry in the USA either - still too patriarchal. Several countries have or have had, women presidents and prime-ministers.

Oddly, given its deeply patriarchal society and veil of secrecy, even North Korea's next President might be a woman - the daughter who seems to be next in line in the Kim dynasty.

I did not ask if you want to be a president. I don't suppose you do. Nor do I. Sop don't twist the question.

I asked how you would run a country if you were its leader, that's all.

I did not ask what sex the leader has to be.

My question was to try to understand what you see as a good way to run a country.
emiliya · 26-30, F
@ArishMell Where did I say that? I said: I'm a woman. Why would I want to be president?

Want is want, not could.

I asked how you would run a country if you were its leader, that's all.

And I said I'm a woman. Why would I want to be president? You read that as women can't be presidents and you read it that way because you are an scanning for sexism. Another person would read it and not know what to think but you jump to something I never said. Want is an interesting word. It could mean I'm a woman and want to be an artist's muse, or I'm a woman and want to be nurse. Or doctor. Maybe I want to be the next Beyoncé. If I were any of those things, where would I find the time for presidency?
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@emiliya It's irrelevant though! I asked only how you would run a country if in that situation, not whether you want to - and the first clause is not relevant.

There is no reason for a woman not to be a president or a prime minister, but you introduced that, not me!

I would not want to a president or prime minister of Anywhereland either, and never will be, but I can still state what I would want of the country.

For making sure Iran does not have nuclear capabilities. Absolutely no one will be safe if they do.
peterlee · M
@Musicman Is that Trump’s objective?
It was regime change.

What is his mate Benjamin’s?
Stephie · 22-25, F
@peterlee Benjamin is not his mate, he is the puppet of Benjamin and that is a big difference.
Stephie · 22-25, F
@Stephie Thanks for the gift. It comes in handy 🤭

@Stephie Trump at the moment is threatening us with tariffs. We don’t need American bases in England.
Nor his golf course in Scotland.
Stephie · 22-25, F
@peterlee I am aware we don't need them but tell that to those corrupt politicians.
