The curtains opened and the losers would be taken on a tour around the expensive prize they let slip through their fingers. It was unintentionally hilarious, bearing in mind these people likely struggled to buy a new car (or speedboat). It's become something of a cult in the UK and people use the show's terminology in everyday speech nowadays. For instance, if someone has some bad luck, you'd now say, "Never mind, take a look at what you would have won." 😄
