british politics]

july the fourth this year will have prevelence in our country as for our cousins over the big pond when we finally see the back of sunak and his governent . sunak must be fearing a humilating defeat as john major did in 1997 when tony blair took office

I'm not British, and I see both major parties as parasitic. You good guys must get rid of both of them, and establish proportional representation, so that new movements have a chance to develop. Good luck 🌷

@helenS You didn't know because it isn't true. Ever since quasi-democratic voting was introduced in 1832, UK parliamentary elections have been decided on the first past the post system.
kwood1 · 61-69, M
@MartinII To be clear, nearly all constituencies in1800 returned two MPs but voting qualifications varied considerably. From1832 (a third of the way into the century) a process of reforms created single member constituencies and standardised voting rights, but still excluded most of the adult population.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@kwood1 Yes, quite so. Pre-1832 some members just bought their seats, or inherited them. In those cases there wasn't much voting at all!

At least our party leaders aren’t geriatrics like America😂😂

@Anniedlr There was an outstanding geriatric one not that long ago - arguably one of the world's greatest ever PMs - but maybe you're still too wet behind the ears to know anything about him?

Fourth of July, but who’s counting. 😛
Labour with a massive majority (hopefully)
Reform in 2nd according to some polls.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Finding it difficult to see where some people reckon Reform are likely to hold the balance of power as their esteemed leader Mr. Farage constantly says he will.
I have a horrible feeling 50% of voters won't even bother to turn out.
Simply because they don't see any advantage in wasting their vote on any party clueless as to what they can do to appeal to their own supporters let alone try to appeal to anyone else.

The UK is an utter mess. Agree Sunak needs to be gone. Is Keir Starmar any better....nah he's just a nicer Tory really but it'll be a start if he gets in. At least we'll be rid of the obvious Tories 🤷
maskedbandit · 61-69, M
I just wish they stop popping them darn fireworks. My heart can't take it. It's not even the fourth yet. 🤣
