No, it’s much worse than that. They’re actually a slightly dim German family, to whom we have for some reason given BILLIONS.

@SW-User They're half Scottish and since the Crown Estate started paying tax, you've paid them nothing, because the tax paid has been more than state funding.

SW-User
@Gumba1000 They are not half scottish. Their ancestors are the Saxe-Coburgs.
Really? We've paid them nothing.
Read this and weep.

@Gorps Well, there is that. But then you can say we're all part East African :P

@SW-User They are half Scottish. It was James 6ths family line that married into the Germans. As for the tax, you didn't look at The Crown Estate.

SW-User
@Gorps The fact remains, the sooner we are rid of the Royals, the better.

@Gorps No. Irish.

@SW-User 3 generations back I had ancestors (Great grandparents) who were Irish Scots - or was it Scots Irish? I think there was a time when Scots & Irish were interchangeable descriptions, with frequent personal and family crossings of the Irish sea
Sorry for insinuating you're English 🙂 (indicates humorous intent 🙂)

The fact remains
Speculations & hypotheses cannot 'remain' as 'facts'.

@Gumba1000 You're right about Lloyd George. The others are Clemençeau of France and US pres. Woodrow Wilson. They basically carved the world up into the nations we now have, often regardless of ethnic & historic differences; and imposing the boundaries we still struggle with. M. McMillan's book is interesting but very detailed and it's a while since I read it.

@Gorps I don't think it is fair to blame them. All territories fracture, unify, get annexed over time. Germany used to be several separate countries, and those areas still have rivalry among each other. It's not war like, but if it were, it's not the Kaiser's fault or Bismark's now. There's been well over a century since that happened. All those generations since could have declared peace. They chose not to.
