A question for British members

Yesterday when I clearing out a shelf I found my old reports from when I was at school in the 70s. They all stated which position I was in the class , for example : 5th out of 33.
Is that still done in British schools?
I've been away from England for nany years.

That sounds horrible. Total competition. 😕

@helenS What’s wrong with competition?

@MartinII I wouldn't want to hear an 8-year old say to another 8-year old: "I am the 7th-best and you are only number 19." 😐

@helenS Well, children are sometimes beastly, sometimes kind - always will be. Another child might say “Well done Snoggins, up from 25 to 19.” The important thing, in my view, is that children, like everyone else, should know where they stand.

@helenS We had different sections for excellent and mediocre students. We were 14 or 15 at that time.

@MartinII I'd prefer if children were taught how to cooperate, instead of how to compete.

@helenS Surely children should be encouraged to do both - which, on the whole, they were at my school

@MartinII I was much much too competitive, as a school girl 😑

@helenS Ah. I was terribly nice and cooperative - well, except when I wasn’t.
