Putin wants to remake the Russian Federation like the USSR!

Yes, in 1922, following the Ukrainian-Soviet War (1917–1921), Bolshevik forces took control of Ukraine and added it to the USSR. During its time in the USSR, the Ukrainian language was suppressed but never fully outlawed. Use of the Russian language was forced in public life, education, and administration, in Ukraine.

During that time, Ukraine was essentially a colony of the USSR - a colony with a better climate such that many Russian colonizers moved in and took up residence, especially in Crimea.

Did Ukrainians like being a colony?? Current events strongly suggest they preferred home rule and the Ukrainian language.

This is one of the reasons Germany thought they would win a war against the USSR. They thought they'd be greeted as liberators by most of the Russian (Ukranian) people, and they were by many. The Nazi party wasn't exclusively a German thing either.

The Germans actually thought the US were going to fight alongside them and help them defeat the Soviet Union. Considering how long it took us to enter the war in Europe, I've wondered that myself. It seemed like we were waiting to see who was going to win before we picked a side. ..like what dogs do as they watch 2 pack members fight, as soon as one shows signs of losing, the rest jump in and help the winner

I guess there are some who wish it still was. Although, that's for the people of Ukraine to decide, no one else.
