Your opinion on supporting Ukraine?

As much as I want to support our needs at home, I believe it is important to make a stand for people who want freedom. We have plenty of needs here in the US, but freedom is our foundation.

Yet again, All I would ask is;

How many US Voters, Taxpayers, and Consumers are willing to be Poor, Destitute, Impoverished, and willing to watch the last US Dollar go up in smoke for the sake of the City of Kopiansk to be on the Border of Russia or Ukraine, or for Biden's version of Vietnam?!

@Broache73 good points
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
@Broache73 Would they rather send their kids over to fight Russians on the battlefields in Europe?
@Broache73 That is not in question. The US is donating mainly existing weapons stocks (often older types) so there is not a vast dollar cost to the US taxpayer. Stopping Russia's aggressive imperialist actions is critical for everyone's freedom in the West. Do you listen to what Russia says about Poland being next, or that Russian soldiers should be washing their boots in the Atlantic?

@Adeptlinguist this is exactly how I feel. Gotta make a stand somewhere. And that saying, "freedom isn't free" is so true.

Its not the American Taxpayers and Consumers job or Moral Authority to help or overthrow Governments and give other Sovereign Countries "American Democracy"...
It's not the job of the United States to replace other Governments with Vassal States,

Who in God's name elected the United States to be the World's Policemen?!

I didn't sign up to give or force onto other Sovereign Countries what they didn't want, never asked for, and weren't interested in the first place. Democracy is the Business of other Countries who well able to take care of themselves. @Tastyfrzz
@Broache73 Considering that our military aid to Ukraine has amounted to only a few bucks for each American citizen, I don't think we're in any danger of being rendered destitute over it. Our entire obscene military budget is more likely to do that.

Also, we're not overthrowing the Ukrainian government, we're preventing it from being overthrown. We're also not imposing "American democracy." You might be referring to other conflicts the US has been involved in, but our support for Ukraine isn't any of those things.
@LeopoldBloom To bring the US’s largest global adversary’s military to its knees for a small single-digit percentage of defence spending is a bargain.

Boy, I'm very happy and relieved that I never went along with this debacle, I'll have more dividends than I could've imagined. You can have at it!
@Broache73 You give the impression of having a rather shortsighted US-centric attitude. Am I wrong?
Coldplay · 61-69, M
@Broache73 I do not think you are wrong for feeling that way. Your opinion is respected. My opinion is different. If the “free world” doesn’t support those facing oppression, who will? We have in common the desire to handle our own problems. I much prefer to use the money on our homeless, pay teachers what they deserve, provide healthcare., etc.
@Broache73 What do you mean, "went along with it?" If you live in the U.S., it will affect you whether you support it or not.
Broache73 · 46-50, F
@LeopoldBloom
It never has
@Broache73 OK, great, you've never been affected by public policy. So why do you care if it won't affect your life in any way?
Broache73 · 46-50, F
@LeopoldBloom
Why do you care if it does affect your way of life?!
@Broache73 That's a silly question. Of course I care about public policy that affects me. Maybe you're in a position of privilege where you can sit on your balcony and watch events in perfect detachment, but most of us don't live that way.
@LeopoldBloom In any case, public policy is about much more than whether it affects me as an individual. It’s about the state of society and the wider world. I care about that and hope others do too.
@Adeptlinguist Of course, that's important to me as well. For example, my wife and I are way past the age where we have to worry about an unplanned pregnancy, but I still support legal access to abortion for anyone who wants one even if it doesn't affect me directly.
