I wonder how Patriot systems deliveries to Ukraine will affect our energy grid integrity

I am aware that Patriots have an insane range and can shoot down basically anything from drones to fighter jets way before they reach their targets, which is great. However, obviously we are getting only limited amount of them, knowing how expensive and hard to make they are. So, I assume they will be defending key power generation objects. What concerns me is the fact that Russia uses swarms of cheap Iranian "Shahed-136" drones, and since recently even smaller "Shahed-131" variants, so I wonder if our AA will be overwhelmed, and if we can reliably and quickly identify approaching targets, in order to not waste expensive Patriot missiles on stupid scooter drones and decoys (Shaheds make a sound similar to a scooter engine when they fly if you didn't know). I'm far from expert on this topic, but I would like to understand it more. These idiots even launched missiles with dummy nuclear warheads at us, can you believe it... But then again they sent packages with literal animal eyes in them to tens of our diplomats in many countries across Europe, so I guess it's not that surprising.

Perhaps if the Ukrainians have the capabilities to reach where these drones are launched from, it might be possible they can locate them and commence pre -emptive strikes in a move to negatively impact the ability for them to be launched or totally destroyed.

Recent news reports indicate that there were strikes in Russia and they were against their military and assets that could be the result of Ukrainian military actions.

@soar2newhighs Yeah we might have the capabilities, but i'm not sure where US stands on that. US is against giving us long range ATACMS missiles for example so that we don't strike Russia. Did you know they even modified regular munitions for HIMARS so that they wouldn't reach Russia?
@sdhsdfgsd No I wasn’t aware and your comment is the first time I’m hearing that.
Well I remember one or a few of their( Russian) naval craft were damaged and recently air bases struck.
If the U.S. is taking a position, of standing off, perhaps the Ukrainian military getting military aid from the U.S. has strings attached in a few ways, like how the arms/systems can be used.

@soar2newhighs Yep that's how it is.

Their supply of drones isn't infinite, and the Iranian government may cease to exist soon. It's not unlikely that the Iranian tyrants will be burnt in one of their mosques in the near future.

I am no technical expert regarding the Patriot system either, but I would assume the newly deployed system will make Ukraine a safer place.

@helenS Indeed this war is the result of us going our way, away from authoritarian corrupt soviet system and mindset, and inability of Russia to let us go (like they can't let go of Georgia, Moldova and Chechnia). Russia in it's current state is an archaic monstrosity and in my opinion should cease to exist, giving way to new, healthier and smaller nations that will come from it's corpse. It should be a lesson to others as well, particularly China.

@sdhsdfgsd I also think Russia may not survive Putin’s disastrous decision to invade Ukraine and kill and torture people on foreign ground.

@sdhsdfgsd the ‘Russian federation’ will disintegrate before long.

The Soviet Union was our enemy before you were born. Reagan and Bush 41 spent trillions of 1980 dollars to break that country up. So far Zelensky has done an amazing job with the resources we have given. 50 billion is really chump change compared to what we used to spend.

@Pfuzylogic For real I believe investing in Ukrainian Armed Forces is a great idea, we are incredibly efficient so far.

@msros That's for sure, but it goes deeper than that. The whole russian regime is an abomination and can create many people like Putin.

Thats really short sighted of you.. Hi tech military hardware is one of the few Export items the US still has a big market in.. It HAS to be shown to work against the probably opposition to attract sales.. Or dont you want Americans to have jobs??? Are you some sort of a Commie or something???😷
sdhsdfgsd · 31-35, M
@whowasthatmaskedman Yeah of course I know they're effective, I just wanted to understand how they would work in this battlefield. It seems my general idea about it is right.

Patriots will be reserved only for the biggest missiles, and hopefully for the aircraft that launch them.
