November 21: Day of Dignity and Freedom in Ukraine 🇺🇦
IMPORTANT 💙💛
Today November 21 the Day of Dignity and Freedom in Ukraine.
This is the day, when the new era of Ukraine started. Almost 2 thousand people came out to the main square of Kyiv to protest against shameful decisions of pro- Russian president Yanukovych. He refused to sign The Agreement on the Associated Membership of Ukraine in the European Union. This meant we were going to be closer to russia, going to be dependent on russia.
On 30 November, at night, only several hundreds of activists remained on the street, mainly - students. They were brutally chased by police. In response to that, on 1 December, hundreds of thousands of people came to the centre of Kyiv. The police arbitrariness convoked people to rebel against corruption, the usurpation of power, the russification policy, and the rapprochement with Russia.
This is the Day when Ukrainians demonstrated their Europeanness, dignity and desire for freedom.
This is the crucial point of our history. We are thankful to those who didn't remain silent 9 years ago, and we got our chance to build a strong nation with our values, language and culture.
Stand with Ukraine!

Thank you for posting this Steph! I hope that many people see this, most especially my more conservative friends here in America.
The PEOPLE of Ukraine had a "We the People" moment in 2004 and again in 2014. The Orange Revolution (2004) and the Revolution of Dignity (2014) were the Ukrainian PEOPLE standing up and rejecting corruption, rejecting Kleptocracy, rejecting Russian influence and seeking freedom and liberty and closer ties to the West.
I understand that my conservative friends look at Ukraine and see a long history of corruption in politics and business, a long history of Oligarchs running life from back rooms. I get it. But please know that the PEOPLE of this great nation have seen the same thing you've seen in its past leaders and rejected it and them. They, the PEOPLE, now seek closer ties to the West and, more importantly, they seek a Western life with individual liberties and protected freedoms.
While I do not call myself a Republican, I have stated many times here on SW that on the American political spectrum, I do fall right of center. As a kindred spirit in many ways, I implore you to look at the Ukrainian situation not through the filter of whatever may or may not have happened with the Biden family and previous governments in Ukraine. Rather, look at the country as it exists today. We have a people here who have been under Moscow's influence for a century and who have been starved, tortured, beaten, and who are standing up in this moment and saying, "Enough!"
One of your favorite president's described America as a great city on a hill and a shining light. Well, the people of Ukraine have seen that light and need our help. I have stood on the Ukrainian border with Romania and have seen the faces of women and children fleeing the terror and leaving behind their fathers and husbands. They do not ask us to fight their War for Independence for them. They simply ask for our help. Please remember, during our own War for Independence, we also asked for help and the French and the Prussians were only too happy to come to our aid. We should return the favor to freedom seeking people.
@Ryderbike So you are saying that without America there would be no American slavery, American wars on lies, or American torture. Am I hearing you right??
Next thing you know, you'll be telling me that without America there would be no Americans! 🤣🤣🤣
@Ryderbike Oh please. You are embarrassing yourself here.
I commented here on a post about the Ukrainian Day of Dignity and Freedom and asked my more conservative friends here in America to support the Ukrainian cause and you're only thought is America is not perfect. I feel sorry for you. Be well.
@Ryderbike You made the point that without the help of the French Republic during our own revolution that there would be no America. I simply tried to bring the conversation back to the topic at hand and stated that without America (i.e. American help) there will be no Ukraine. If we do not support Ukraine in its fight against Russia, against Moscow, and against Putin, there will be no Ukraine. This is a demonstrably true statement.
Please explain how I am wrong here or what part of it is "arrogant"??? Do the math. Without American aid provided so far directly to Ukraine and to other western nations to back fill their inventories depleted by their support of Ukraine, the country would already be gone.
@sarabee1995 that would be like saying the United States won World War II. Totally Disregarding the fact that the allies were fighting Hitler for two years before America even decided to join in. Did you think America was all alone in it’s support of Ukraine?
@Ryderbike WWII (in Europe) was won by American factories, British intelligence, and Russian blood. I haven't ever said WWII was won by America. I'm not sure how your statement is in any way connected to my words here.
As for Ukraine ... vastly different situation. Eastern European nations are providing Ukraine with their Soviet-era stockpiles of weapons (because Ukraine is trained in their use) and getting their warehouses back-filled with western weapons provided primarily by America.
As for direct aid to Ukraine, I'll let the numbers speak for themselves:
@Ryderbike No, not at all. Coalitions are important. But, in this one situation, Ukraine would not exist today without America's help (both directly and indirectly) and will not exist in the near future if we don't keep it up. And that is why I posted this comment.
@sarabee1995 without assistance from other nations how would America get weapons to Ukraine? Without the Canadian and British trainers how would the Ukrainian military be able to fight?
@sarabee1995 Data does not include military aid from Australia and I am sure many other countries. Also excludes non-military aid which is also vital to the overall war effort.
@Ryderbike Canadian and British trainers have been training Ukrainian's on the use of weapons provided by Canada and the UK. The US has been training Ukrainians since 2014 on the use of weapons provided by America. Those training hours are included in the chart above.
@sarabee1995 what you fail to understand is that America can only train on the use of their weapons because America is a high-tech military. The strategy that the Ukrainians have been using which is a decentralized strategy is because of the Canadian training and accounts for a large part of their success. Without the surrounding nations feeding and taking care of literally millions of Ukrainian refugees, Ukraine would not be doing nearly as well. Again your American arrogance refuses to face the fact that all the pieces are necessary and all of the allies
@KiwiBird Steph -- Australia has provided and pledged $388 AUD ($257 USD) in 2022. This would put it likely next on the chart above. Much appreciated of course.
