November 21: Day of Dignity and Freedom in Ukraine 🇺🇦

IMPORTANT 💙💛

Today November 21 the Day of Dignity and Freedom in Ukraine.

This is the day, when the new era of Ukraine started. Almost 2 thousand people came out to the main square of Kyiv to protest against shameful decisions of pro- Russian president Yanukovych. He refused to sign The Agreement on the Associated Membership of Ukraine in the European Union. This meant we were going to be closer to russia, going to be dependent on russia.

On 30 November, at night, only several hundreds of activists remained on the street, mainly - students. They were brutally chased by police. In response to that, on 1 December, hundreds of thousands of people came to the centre of Kyiv. The police arbitrariness convoked people to rebel against corruption, the usurpation of power, the russification policy, and the rapprochement with Russia.

This is the Day when Ukrainians demonstrated their Europeanness, dignity and desire for freedom.

This is the crucial point of our history. We are thankful to those who didn't remain silent 9 years ago, and we got our chance to build a strong nation with our values, language and culture.

Stand with Ukraine!

Sorry in advance for the long comment

Thank you for posting this Steph! I hope that many people see this, most especially my more conservative friends here in America.

The PEOPLE of Ukraine had a "We the People" moment in 2004 and again in 2014. The Orange Revolution (2004) and the Revolution of Dignity (2014) were the Ukrainian PEOPLE standing up and rejecting corruption, rejecting Kleptocracy, rejecting Russian influence and seeking freedom and liberty and closer ties to the West.

I understand that my conservative friends look at Ukraine and see a long history of corruption in politics and business, a long history of Oligarchs running life from back rooms. I get it. But please know that the PEOPLE of this great nation have seen the same thing you've seen in its past leaders and rejected it and them. They, the PEOPLE, now seek closer ties to the West and, more importantly, they seek a Western life with individual liberties and protected freedoms.

While I do not call myself a Republican, I have stated many times here on SW that on the American political spectrum, I do fall right of center. As a kindred spirit in many ways, I implore you to look at the Ukrainian situation not through the filter of whatever may or may not have happened with the Biden family and previous governments in Ukraine. Rather, look at the country as it exists today. We have a people here who have been under Moscow's influence for a century and who have been starved, tortured, beaten, and who are standing up in this moment and saying, "Enough!"

One of your favorite president's described America as a great city on a hill and a shining light. Well, the people of Ukraine have seen that light and need our help. I have stood on the Ukrainian border with Romania and have seen the faces of women and children fleeing the terror and leaving behind their fathers and husbands. They do not ask us to fight their War for Independence for them. They simply ask for our help. Please remember, during our own War for Independence, we also asked for help and the French and the Prussians were only too happy to come to our aid. We should return the favor to freedom seeking people.

This should not be a political issue.

/Rant over. :)

@Ryderbike All true. I've said nothing that contradicts any of that. So what's your point?
@sarabee1995 Canada has been training ukranian troops since 2014 .

But you chose to only mention america training troops since 2014.

Why would that be?

@Ryderbike For one reason only .... YOU objected to my saying that without America's help, there would not be a Ukraine today and without our continued help (which I am pleading for from my more conservative friends), there will be no Ukraine in the future.

I still stand by my statement. Without America's $27B USD (just in 2022 -- Does not count the eight prior years of help), there would not be a Ukraine today. Look at the chart. I'm not saying that coalitions are not important. I'm not saying that Canada's help hasn't been amazing (I've worked VERY closely with Canadian Forces counterparts over the last 2+ years). I'm not saying the help from the Brits or the Poles or the Germans hasn't been important. I'm simply saying that without the $27B USD provided this year and the prior help before this year, there would not be a Ukraine today. You are trying to attach all kinds of other meanings here that I never said.

Sorry, I'm back to work now (actually helping Ukraine) so you can have the last word.
Pray for all Ukrainians & Ukraine 🇺🇦 🙏🏼 💙

May they win this war against russia 💙🙏🏼
Of course this led to the taking of Crimea and ultimately this war.
@TheSirfurryanimalWales really …? So putin was allowed to get away with it? Hmmmm

When Russia invaded Crimea

Obama kicked putin out of the G7 ..united the allies in crushing sanctions on Russia , repeatedly called for putin to get out of Crimea.......allocated a billion dollars in defence of Europe to counter russian aggression.

Post one time where trump told putin to get out of Crimea.

Trump destroyed the allied coalition demanding Putin leave crimea and in fact begged the allies to let putin back into the G7.

You’ll never find once where trump told Putin to get out of Crimea..not a single time.

The whole world knows putin owns trump
@Ryderbike how did you manage to get Trump into this?
@TheSirfurryanimalWales you mean by mentioning how trump took the pressure off putin and destroyed the allied coalition demanding putin leave Crimea?

Um..because that’s what happened
