What do you think about NATO offering to withdraw nukes from Europe in exchange for ending the Ukraine invasion?

The ridiculous question above was asked on Quora (quora.com) and the answer below was offered by quoran Alan Taylor. I love his answer and support it 100%.

How about this? The West will agree to lift all its sanctions against Russia as soon as Russia does the following:

1) Removes all its troops and agents from Ukrainian soil, including the Donbas and Crimea

2) Returns to Ukraine all the people that have been relocated into Russia since February 24, including the children

3) Releases all prisoners of war currently in Russian custody

4) Agrees to pay reasonable reparations to Ukraine out of its assets seized by Western banks

5) Denounces the statehood of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Luhansk People’s Republic and formally recognizes such territories as oblasts of a sovereign Ukraine

6) Completely denuclearizes, allowing UN agents to inspect, remove, and insure the safe disposal of all Russian nuclear warheads

7) Renounces nuclear weapons and agrees to unfettered UN inspections of all Russian nuclear facilities to insure that Russia never attempts to re-nuclearize

8) Surrenders its seat on the UN security council

That sounds like a good plan to me.

Me too. Number two is especially important to me. Thousands (maybe tens of thousands) of non-combatant civilians have been involuntarily "depopulated" from Ukraine and moved to labor camps in Russia. This crime against humanity must be reversed.

Number six and seven are necessary because no country in the history of the world has threatened nuclear war as often or to the extent that Russia has in 2022. They can no longer be allowed to possess such weapons.

Its missing something... allowing the extradition and criminal prosecution of any and ALL Russian war criminals including with no limitation senior leadership for acts committed against Ukrainian nationals and volunteers on Ukrainian territory.. The tribunals will be military courts comprised of appropriate rank personnel..

@pdqsailor1 i can see putin putting his head in that noose...

@Yulianna I am certain some volunteers would be willing to assist in the process and honestly who would be more deserving of the result?

@pdqsailor1 it achieves nothing except making him a martyr hero...

@Yulianna Perhaps a bit of study on the prosecution, conviction and sentencing of the war criminals of Nazi Germany and Japan following the successful prosecution of the Second World War and then tell me which of those criminals have been since regarded as heroes. I don't recall any statues recently dedicated to Saddam Hussein or Osama Bin Laden either.. Herman Goring took cyanide rather than be hung, the senior Nazi war criminals were not really hung so much as slowly strangled to death by a totally inept American executioner - some reports on the selection of this idiot maintain that it was intentional..

@pdqsailor1 your analogy doesn't work, Germany was a crushed and defeated nation, surrendering unconditionally to overwhelming force.

do you really think Moscow will be reduced to the rubble that was Berlin?

Saddam broken and in hiding amid the ruins of his country.

bin Laden in semi retirement, suffered non judicial execution.

putin could face war crimes trial only if he were handed over by a successor russian government. how long do you think such a government would hold power against the stalinist myth of russian empire?

statues don't make heroes in today's world... myths make heroes, and internet conspiracies.

@Yulianna If you believe that Putin is going to die an old man, in the comfort of his bed, well let me be polite and suggest that I humbly disagree with this scenario... his power and wealth can only be maintained with his control... and when this wanes, and it will then he will meet the sticky end he is destined for. Who will turn on him? How will it occur? That is not yet determinate but I trust in him meeting a sticky end as is appropriate.

his power and wealth can only be maintained with his control
True of all authoritarian dictators.
Yulianna · 26-30, F
@pdqsailor1 this may well be true, but he will die at russian hands, not condemned by a foreign court.
pdqsailor1 · 61-69, M
so long as it happens much sooner rather than later @Yulianna
Yulianna · 26-30, F
@pdqsailor1 there is no reason to suppose it will... and every reason to believe that putin will gonuclear ratherthan face defeat and humiliation.
