Here's your daily reminder that the Russians are invading Ukraine for their natural gas & pipelines, not bc of ties to NATO.

And even if it was bc of NATO, that would be a ridiculous justification. Ukraine is a sovereign state and has a right to join military alliances with other sovereign states.

Ukraine was not close to joining NATO. They were becoming more Western. There were expressions about potentially joining NATO by Ukraine, but there was no movement on it. Putin knew this

NATO was a factor though. They’d been on the verge of joining an Putin knew that would over complicated his plans.
