That’s nonsense. The white crosses are a memorial to farmers that have been murdered. Both black and white. Our president openly lied to yours saying he is unaware of the monument.
Gaza is a different issue.

@TangledUpInBlue Actually, this is the video Trump was talking about. There are no graves under those crosses. The crosses were planted temporarily along the funeral procession of Glen and Vida Rafferty, who were murdered in 2020 on their farm in Normandien.

@Jokersswild they are still there - they were first erected in 2004 and people keep adding them for victims of farm murders, black and white. Hence me calling it a memorial. There is no such thing as separate burial grounds for black and white people in South Africa. It was during apartheid, that ended 30 years ago. Source - I live there. Funny how our president lied to yours about being unaware of them. It’s all over our social media.

@TangledUpInBlue Are you White South African or Black South African?
In any case, legally, apartheid ended, but the reality is that segregation still exists in many forms. White South Africans (7% of the population) own over 72% of farmland. You live there but the facts are widely available. White South Africans continue to dominate private banking and corporate wealth. They often live in affluent areas with privatized services, including cemeteries. Those cemeteries that are privately owned within White communities in South Africa.... And don't tell me "There's no such thing as White Communities in South Africa." Orania?

@Jokersswild have you heard of BEE? Black economic empowerment? There are many initiatives to empower black communities. There are race quotas for all fields. University attendance, sports teams, business. We have 142 race based laws in favour of previously disadvantaged. In exclusive areas there are a mixture of people and the black elite is up and coming. My neighbours in an ordinary area are black, Chinese, Indian and white. As for the ownership of farms, yes however the government has many farms and vast tracts of land that they have let go derelict. Why didn’t they give the people land and support? Also we have roughly sixty million people here, of those 60 million, 26million are on social grants. Only 7 percent of the country pays personal income tax. Do the maths. Who do you think pays the most tax?
As for Orania, their criteria is being Afrikaans…not specifically white. I actually checked on their application. I don’t know why this small place lives rent free in so many people’s heads. The government gave them permission. They bought some land in the middle of nowhere and built up a community of about 3000 people. They made it work. They don’t bother anyone. There are many areas that have their own cultural identity and citizens that live there. Don’t you have something similar in America re tribal lands or reservations?
I have never once in my life heard of privately owned cemeteries for certain races only. If they do exist it’s not a common thing.
I know when and how apartheid ended. I was 18 years old and voted in the first democratic election in the country. People were happy and optimistic for the most part. Willing to work together. Make the country good and strong. But the government has since looted and corrupted millions of rands. Everything is falling apart.
Anyway what are you actually trying to say? That because there were injustices in the past (that have been addressed) it’s ok for people to be murdered because of their race now? Aka payback time? What is your point?

@TangledUpInBlue His point is you are wrong because he lazily searched for some social media that confirmed what he already believed and expected you to accept his point and shutup.
As you know, I have little patience and a lot of contempt for foreigners who condescend to me as an American and tell me what America is like, even though they have never been here and only know us for what our country sold him.

@SumKindaMunster absolutely and that’s why I generally refrain from commenting on American politics. Sometimes however I do, it’s just an opinion or I ask questions. The thing is like I told you before, these white farmers pay a lot of tax and feed the country. Government has plenty of land they could redistribute if they wanted to. Why do they want to take working lands that feed their citizens. Why don’t they start new initiatives for housing and farming. I’ll tell you why …because that would not allow for looting and corruption. That’s why. They started RDP housing for people living in shacks…and guess what? It fell apart due to corruption. So basically now to get votes they’re looking for a scapegoat and some line to appeal to people. Take back our land. Julius Malema sings shoot the boer and cut the throat of whiteness loud and proud.we have a high murder rate but if you’re white and a farmer you’re 40 percent more likely to be killed. Afriforum went to the government who denied that this was happening. So they went to America for help. The white guy who commented on the interview is called Johann Rupert. The richest and one of the most powerful people in South Africa. He arranged the meeting. By the way was anti apartheid.
If you could read the stories you’d vomit. Because they torture people, even kids. Now no one here is disregarding that we all suffer from crime, obviously black people being the biggest demographic there will be more black victims of crime. The thing that bothers people besides the murder rape and pillaging is the lack of accountability on our governments part. The lack of the same protections for all its citizens regardless of race colour or creed. And yes people who can afford it do privatise security as the policing system is corrupt too. Those aren’t just white people. It’s everyone who can afford it.

Please, I'm certainly not claiming to have more knowledge about what's happening in South Africa than someone who has lived it. I wouldn’t presume to tell her what is happening within the borders of her own country. My post was aimed specifically at the statements made byTrump and the way certain information was framed and distorted in that context. I acknowledge I am not intimately familiar with the current realities on the ground. However, I do believe the term "white genocide" is highly charged and misleading. She herself noted that both white and black farmers have been targeted and murdered. Yet Trump presented the issue as if the South African government were systematically orchestrating the killing and displacement of white farmers.
@TangledUpInBlue
If I came across as arrogant, I apologize. I know you're far more familiar with the situation in South Africa than I could ever claim to be. But some of Trump’s statements were misleading. One video he used to show murdered white farmers was actually Reuters footage from the Congo, not South Africa. Whoever put together his presentation either failed to research properly or deliberately distorted the facts.

@Jokersswild thank you, its. Nuanced issue here with many different and complex opinions. It’s very difficult as I think we as South Africans, all of us basically live with permanent PTSD due to crime. It’s hard when women are getting raped and killed and kids and tortured and just all that nasty stuff. It’s terrible and we all suffer. That’s the bottom line and if our government would just manage the country properly it could be so good. Anyway I understand the issues with Trump but for me I’m just glad people are talking about South Africa. Maybe it will help us as a nation. I’m sure Trump has his own agenda but the fact that he had Cyril in the Oval Office rose awareness on the shit going down here. Thank you for being a gentleman.
