Events do tend to repeat themselves.

This afternoon I had a nice chat at the local pub with an old friend. He mentioned that he's astounded how people demonize the Russians these days. He has a point. No people is the devil but the devil is indeed nevertheless always everywhere. Or rather he can appear in anyone who allows it to happen. Perhaps in a fallen idealist who's becomes the most ruthless fighter during the revolution, or in a bright academic student who actually created the army that kept the revolution on its feet, or indeed in a thuggish opportunist who once wanted to become a priest. Somehow I don't think that hatred towards a certain people or life in general is a sign of great enlightment either.

Whole peoples aren't demons, but leaders like Putin certainly are.
