Russians plunder $5M farm vehicles from Ukraine -- to find they've been remotely disabled

(CNN)Russian troops in the occupied city of Melitopol have stolen all the equipment from a farm equipment dealership -- and shipped it to Chechnya, according to a Ukrainian businessman in the area.

But after a journey of more than 700 miles, the thieves were unable to use any of the equipment -- because it had been locked remotely. All the equipment is tracked by remote GPS. The best they could do is sell some parts and all of the serial numbers are registered for each valuable part.

the removal of valuable agricultural equipment from a John Deere dealership in Melitopol speaks to an increasingly organized operation, one that even uses Russian military transport as part of the heist.

@MrBrownstone bingo, that's what the proponents of fully digitized cars are either too ignorant or too incompetent to grasp.

In their constant attack against personal liberty, the government might decide one day to put a quota on how many miles you can drive per day/week/year, and disable your car remotely...

@wildbill83 Such as climate change restrictions

@wildbill83 If the government wants to implement road pricing or mileage rationing they don't need access to the inside of your car. They can just put up number plate recognition cameras everywhere.
