Charity Concert: Medical Aid for Palestine.
This concert was for Medical Aid to Gaza Strip and provided a reflection of the horrors there.
The work performed was Beethoven’s Sting Quartet, opus 132. Most of the work lay in the ethereal third movement, lasting over twenty five minutes, written when the composer was totally deaf.
Performed by international artists, who gave their time for free. Organised by Matt Baillie , a graduate of the Yehudi Menuhin school of music, and the pressure group British Jews for Palestine.
Menuhin performed in Germany with Benjamin Britten, immediately after the Second World War, witnessing the aftermath of the holocaust.
The Founder of British Jews for Palestine’s own mother was a victim of the Concentration Camps. Filled with horror with the treatment of the people of Gaza Strip, mainly children.
Attended by about four hundred people, the work allowed a time of reflection, It was the best work I’ve witnessed Baillie perform.
