Kobe Bryant being interviewed in Italian…

There’s much I didn’t know about about the late Kobe Bryant—his being a polyglot, for one thing. He spoke several languages, many learned while traveling. But he grew up in Italy, while his father was playing basketball with an Italian team, and remained fluent all of his life.

This interview shows how comfortable he was with the language. Several of the comments below were from Italian posters, some amazed at his fluency, others proud that he once lived there and had stated that he would always love Italy.

I have no idea who he is but I am a polyglot 🙂🐼🥢
@Dlrannie I’m surprised you’re not familiar. Even people who don’t follow U.S.basketball knew who he was.

@bijouxbroussard That may be the case for Americans but I suspect many non- Americans like myself have not. 🙂
@Dlrannie In a way, the point of the post was that he wasn’t only a product of the U.S. as many of our athletes are. He lived a good bit of his life elsewhere. He interacted with athletes from other countries, spoke Spanish, French, some Chinese.
You didn’t know who he was, I get it. But he was mourned universally when he died in 2020. 🥺
He and Shaq got into a fist fight his first year at practice. He was a hard worker

I had no idea he grew up in Italy ... seems idyllic
@SW-User I didn’t get that impression. But he seems like he was the sort of person who made the best of situations.
