Pope Leo XIV stated that God does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war.

During his Palm Sunday Mass on March 29, 2026, Pope Leo XIV emphasized that Jesus is the "King of Peace" who rejects war and cannot be used to justify armed conflict. He declared that God “does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war, but rejects them,” citing Isaiah 1:15: “Even though you make many prayers, I will not listen: your hands are full of blood”

By citing Isaiah, the Pope gives validation to the Old Testament in the Bible...and we ALL know that the Pope is infallible, right?

So he would NEVER cherry-pick one line out of the Bible to try to prove a PERSONAL point, right?

Here is the correct CONTEXT of that chapter in Isaiah. Isaiah is talking about Sodom and Gommorah, and their sacrifices of the blood of animals.

"Hear the word of the Lord,
you rulers of Sodom;
listen to the instruction of our God,
you people of Gomorrah!
11 “The multitude of your sacrifices—
what are they to me?” says the Lord.
“I have more than enough of burnt offerings,
of rams and the fat of fattened animals;
I have no pleasure
in the blood of bulls and lambs and goats.
12 When you come to appear before me,
who has asked this of you,
this trampling of my courts?
13 Stop bringing meaningless offerings!
Your incense is detestable to me.
New Moons, Sabbaths and convocations—
I cannot bear your worthless assemblies.
14 Your New Moon feasts and your appointed festivals
I hate with all my being.

15 When you spread out your hands in prayer,
I hide my eyes from you;
even when you offer many prayers,
I am not listening.

Your hands are full of blood!

16 Wash and make yourselves clean.
Take your evil deeds out of my sight;
stop doing wrong.
17 Learn to do right; seek justice.
Defend the oppressed.[a]
Take up the cause of the fatherless;
plead the case of the widow.

18 “Come now, let us settle the matter,”
says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,

they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson,
they shall be like wool.
19 If you are willing and obedient,
you will eat the good things of the land;
20 but if you resist and rebel,
you will be devoured by the sword.”
For the mouth of the Lord has spoken."

Pope Leo is incorrectly trying to say that God does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war. (Meaning President Trump). However, God has answered the prayers of the Israelites MANY times, and has aided them in war.

"The Bible account of God answering the prayers of the Israelites and bringing down the walls of Jericho is found in the Book of Joshua. Specifically, it is detailed in Joshua 6:1-27, where God commands Joshua to lead the Israelites to surround Jericho and ultimately destroy its walls. This event signifies God's faithfulness to His promises to the Israelites and is a significant moment in the conquest of Canaan."

FURTHER, in support of Israel:

Genesis 12:3
“I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” – Genesis 12:3

Isaiah 60:12
“For the nation or kingdom that will not serve you will perish; it will be utterly ruined.” – Isaiah 60:12

Jeremiah 31:35-36
“This is what the Lord says: ‘He who appoints the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar—the Lord Almighty is his name: Only if these decrees vanish from my sight,’ declares the Lord, ‘will Israel ever cease being a nation before me.'” – Jeremiah 31:35-36

Romans 9:4-5
“The people of Israel, theirs is the adoption to sonship; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises. Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of the Messiah, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen.” – Romans 9:4-5

LAST but not LEAST...Trump is the friend and supporter of Israel, as commanded by God, and acts as their ally. In the matter oF IRAN...Trump makes war WITH Israel to protect their nation AND THE ENTIRE WORLD FROM NUCLEAR LUNATICS IN IRAN WHOSE STATED GOAL IS THE DESTRUCTION OF THE WORLD.

And he spoke to the Regime in Tehran telling them this about Jesus as the king of peace; hopefully, reminding them that after 47 years of being a major supporter of global terrorism, much of it claimIng American lives and that Their ALLAH, to whom they submit to is a facsimile of Jesus because their supposed “ religion is one promoting peace”, right?
This Pooe disgraces his position and is a shame as an Augustinian!

I think the Pope forgot to read Exodus 17:8-13. God used Moses and his arms and the "staff of God" in his hand to help the Israelites defeat the Amalekites. When Moses' arms were tired, the Amalekites would begin to win. Aaron and Hur sat Moses down and he raised both of his arms. The Israelites won the battle of Rephidim.

Other examples include George Washington praying to God before crossing the Delaware and defeating the British at Trenton. General George S. Patton prayed for good weather during the battle of the Bulge in December 1944.

@4meAndyou As a lifelong Catholic, I can tell you that the Church has unfortunately fallen by the waist side for a number of years now. I would take President Trump's and America's any day over anything the Vatican says. Believe me, the majority of rank and file Catholics feel the same way as we do. I also take it Pope Leo has never heard or listened to The Battle Hymn of the Republic before. [media=https://youtu.be/VCR4ZTY5ijM?si=ZNLSbaUiCs3RFXzl]

@Barefooter25 Those lyrics alone should have been taught to him in school. Obviously they were not.

@Barefooter25 Listening to that brings tears to my eyes.
I'm sure the Pope means well...bless his socialist heart

@BizSuitStacy As a former Catholic, it is upsetting to ME personally to see the POPE cherry-pick scripture to make a political point.

God called David a man after his own heart, but yet he wouldn’t allow him to build the temple because he was a man of war, but yeah, he listened to his prayers and his psalms inspired by God are written in the Bible

@Jake966 And he made David a KING. A KING for the ages.

@4meAndyou I understand. I've found that through the years, one tends to see the world as the world actually is. And not as someone else would like the world to be. I was taught growing up that the Catholic church was the beacon of morality, honor and truth. Then I saw the world as it is and realized I was being manipulated. Now I call balls and strikes and left the tribe mentality behind.

@carpediem THAT is probably PART of why I left the church. Disillusionment.

@4meAndyou Amen....
